I urge you to magnify that top image so you can really crawl into that amazing photo. You can almost smell the machine oil.
Nothing real fancy or creative for this weeks shot. Instead I thought I'd take a photo of my workspace. Im always facinated by what types of environments people work in while at home when they do their photo editing. Ive added some notes to further explain my cluttered tech-life.

Where is the "ugly" bit in your room? Oh, my carpet has suffered. I need to shampoo the whole carpet. It is a good, tough carpet, but it suffered when the cats had hairballs and needs to be shampooed. I have to do something with the windows - the blinds are so old and cracked. I have curtains but I got this bug to embroider a border across the bottom and that takes time.
Watch out for obstacles - oh yes. I love a big open central space. I hate obstacles. I have a little obstacle course around the Closet of Yarn with the chair and the mobile desk and the corner of the Hoosier. I love the mobile desk, but it doesn't fit in the closet when not in use. I usually have it against the Hoosier but that's bad. I have it against the window, which is out of the way, but not as easy to grab and flip down when I am in the chair. Oh well.
I love the suggestion to have living plants or cut flowers in the room, but it isn't practical due to the cats. They will climb anything to get at a live plant or a cut flower and eat it. I grow catnip in my garden and as far as the cats are concerned, anything green COULD be catnip so why not try it?
JOURNAL PROMPT: What doesn't inspire you? What do you remember having in your room before that made you feel negativity and brought you down? What have you eliminated that has freed your mind of the weight it was carrying and now makes you feel excited to get to work on something?
I need to get the carpet as clean as possible. I need to put large pieces down on the floor to work on them. Putting a rug over it is not an option because I have so many wonderful things that roll - the Notions carts, the cutting table, the sewing machine storage cube, the sock kit cart. I just need to get on my hands and knees and scrub it. I have done that in patches and it has worked.
Getting the clothes out of the closets, getting non-art books out of the room, and most of all, for some reason, getting all the scrapbooking supplies out of here just made me so happy. I come into the room, and I know that the room is for and it is easy to get into a crafting state of mind and settle in almost immediately to get to work.
3D workspace to create the Bell Labs Holmdel Complex in Blender. This is the location of my short film.
I must say that I do like to work in this place. Only down side is lack of windows but I've got a huge lamp mounted on the roof beams and this helps a lot.

I haven't had an actual desk of my own in almost four years. Not that this is much of a step up, but it's a workspace! I had 30" of unclaimed wall, so I figured this unit would fit the bill.
It's a stock Ikea PS Laptop Workstation, but to spruce it up a little bit and create an impact-dampening surface for my laptop, I added some cork to the surfaces using this self adhesive 18" x 4' roll of cork lining.
It had to be mounted over the moulding, so it actually sits on two Ikea shelf brackets, and is secured in the back by three toggle bolts via holes drilled in the rear panel.
This is how I attempt to work. Ha! It can be hard to get stuff done.
This is a 10x12 TuffShed.
It's my space and I love it!!
Of course, I use it for a lot of different things as well. Maybe one day I'll feel confident enough to call it my "studio", instead of just a work space!
(I'm in the process of painting a garden flag - with a flamingo on it - right now.
I love the beautiful mess involved in making things. Recently, also enjoying collecting / cultivating random weird things! :)

Our workspaces are so vital to how we work and ultimately the work that we produce. Working at home has always been a luxury for me, but I'm increasingly distracted by emails, iplayer, photos and management responsibilities, so I'm moving to the library, see you there.
This view shows the tight confines of my desk. This is unfortunately all I have to work with for space. The built in cabinets are nice, but I do find I run out of space when reviewing articles.
