I know that this is sorta buzzkill from my previous moody works but it has been such a long time since I post normal shots by my standard - without the alteration with textures and whatnots. I hope this is still acceptable. I tried shooting with a repurchased 55-250mm IS lens. Pretty nifty yea? :)

I have a cousin's wedding to shoot on the 8th of August. I sense another photographer's fright impending :)

The factory was founded in 1934 for the production of Hydronalium. It operated as magnesite works from 1947 to 1990.

In the small Carbon County Pennsylvania town of Weatherly, once stood the Weatherly Train Works where the Lehigh Valley Railroad would build and maintain locomotives and rail cars of various types. The train works existed in this building between 1867 and 1910. One of the other major industrial legacies of Weatherly, steel manufacturing, then took over in 1913 and the Weatherly Steel Company was productive in this location until 1989. In recent years, the building has felt the ravages of both time and weather and the roof had collapsed leaving only the stone walls to let anyone know that industry once existed at this spot. Today, the Weatherly Rotary Club works to raise funds to restore the building while also maintaining a small museum on the adjoining ground. My Wife and I were given a tour of the museum by one of the extremely knowledgable Rotary members where we learned all about the ties the town also had to Bethlehem Steel and other nearby industrial giants.

 

Technical details:

Bronica SQ-A medium format film camera with a Bronica Zenzanon 65mm F4 PS lens.

Hoya Yellow-Green filter on lens.

Kodak Tmax-400 film shot at ISO 400.

Semi-stand development using Kodak HC-110 1+100 dilution for 1 hour with 30 seconds initial agitation with swizzle stick and three turns @ 30 minute mark. Paterson 3 reel tank.

Negative scanned with Epson 4990 on holders fitted with ANR glass.

The afternoon Albula Tunnel works train 5149 from Preda to Samedan heads along the embankment between Bever and Samedan in the care of RhB Class Ge 4/4'' 629 'Tiefencastel'. Work to widen the emankment and provide a second running line was progressing well.

The Moravian Pottery & Tile Works (MPTW) is a history museum located in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Handmade tiles are still produced in a manner similar to that developed by the pottery's founder and builder, Henry Chapman Mercer. Tile designs are reissues of original designs. Mercer was a major proponent of the Arts and Crafts movement in America. He directed the work at the pottery from 1898 until his death in 1930. - Wikipedia

Locomotive 43 514 with a train of ballast hoppers to be unloaded between the stations of Krumovo and Katunitsa on the line Plovdiv-Dimitrovgrad.

German-built V60 no. A-102 sits in front of the Pireas Lefkas works to let dry the fresh paint. Hood sections of MLWs A-468 and 501 plus a steam generator of a MLW X627 take a side track. June 24, 1997.

The black basket is not quite finished.

A busy seafield works with 331 waiting to be debranded the old tour buses waiting to be sent away. And not sure what is happening to 112, 115, 116. 118 & 119 if the are saying farewell or going to be repainted.

Standing at the tiny unkempt passenger station at Stoke works is Stanier Black Five 45260, the station was situated on the Droitwich to Stoke Works Junction line although Stoke Works goods was on the main Birmingham to Bristol line.

The station closed 18/01/1966 and no trace of it remains today.

45260 was built by Armstrong Whitworth in October 1936, it lasted until the end of steam in August 1968 but was cut in February 1969, she has the code for Saltley painted on the smokebox door.

The mill pond in the foreground - the watermills have produced everything from grain to gunpowder, copper and clothing.

The building with the black roof was built in 1795, a mansion for the factory owner. The buildings to the right were built 1832-1869, on top of the stream "Mølleåen" (the "Mill stream"), you can see the intake of water under the small bridge to the right of the outdoor seating. Textiles were produced at Brede Works from 1832 until it was closed down in 1956.

The buildings were taken over by the National Museum of Denmark in the 1960s. The museum, Brede Works, is Denmark's largest, protected industrial plants.

The sad sight of the unique 8P BR Standard pacific 71000 "Duke of Gloucester" in Crewe Works yard. The loco had a bag over its chimney but was complete, including the nameplates. Eventually the cylinders and Caprotti valve gear were removed for the museum with the remainder ready for scrap. Fortunately the remains were purchased, new cylinders cast and the whole loco rebuilt as per the original design. The result was that the loco was transformed and performed brilliantly in preservation.

It used to be, now luxury apartments by the River Teme at Powick on the outskirts of Worcester.

Near Drumkeeran, Co Leitrim, Ireland.

 

One of the few coke-fuelled ironworks in Ireland was built in 1852 by a Scottish company at Creevelea, near the town of Drumkeeran in Co Leitrim in the NW of the Irish Republic.

 

It stood on the site of a charcoal-fuelled furnace built by Charles Coote, Earl of Mountrath (d 1661), that was destroyed during the wars of the 1640s, but revived and worked with charcoal until 1768.

 

In the the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, there was extensive mining, smelting, and milling of iron in north Leitrim, which lasted till the local forests were exhausted, the fuel being wood-charcoal. As the forest disappeared, the fires were put out, the last extinguished being Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim, in 1765. There is still an area in Drumshanbo called Furnace Hill.

 

For the new ironworks built in Creevelea in 1852 iron-ore was obtained locally and coal, for coking on site, was brought from the Arigna coalfield about 20 miles (32 km) away. The cost of transporting the coal is thought to have led to the closure of the works in the mid-1850s.

 

They were momentarily revived, in 1861-62 using peat as the fuel. During a further revival from 1896, under the Peat Charcoal Fuel & Iron Company of Ireland, just one pig of iron was cast, although the company invested capital in an aerial ropeway to transport peat.

 

Iron from Creevelea was used in the construction of the first bridge over the River Tay in Scotland (started construction in 1871 and completed in 1878), in the construction of the Ha'penny Bridge in Dublin, in the manufacture of cannon used in the Crimean War, and in marine engines for Belfast shipyard builders.

 

It is claimed that Creevelea is the last place in Ireland where iron was manufactured.

 

Parts of the works were demolished to provide road materials in the 1940s but one of the blast furnaces still stands, and is shown in this photograph.

This is Tyseley Loco Works, not the current one, but the original works, which was part of 84E., Tyseley loco shed.

The victim in this picture is 40110. The loco is a Stanier 3P 2-6-2 built at Derby Works 10/07/1935 It was allocated to Wrexham Rhosddu (6E) at the time of Peter's picture but is carried 84K shed plates, I assume the depot had become part of the Western Region. 40110 was withdrawn 05/05/1962 and scrapped the following month
