Until I was a senior in high school, whenever I wanted to go somewhere, I used our family car, a 1951 Buick Special. It was 13 years old and dad went on to use it for a number of years more. When I pleaded for a newer car he would always say the old one still works. Today I drive a 19 year old vehicle. It still works.

This location opened in 2005 (originally located here) and was renovated in the mid 2010s; it was originally part of a Victoria's Secret, which opened on October 24th, 1989 and relocated here in 2005. During the mid 2010s renovation the left half of the store became a White Barn.
We've always enjoyed Christmas decorations in our family. But one of the things that most easily killed any excitement about putting up the tree was the real likelihood the string of lights would not work, just because one bulb had blown. But which one? All of them are extinguished because one won't work, so how do you find the faulty one? All you can do is get a tested good bulb and pull out one bulb after another and put the good one in to see if the string of lights magically lights up, before moving on to the next and repeating the exercise over and over until successful. But if the string didn't light up it might be because you had bent the little 'connector' wire. So frustrating! And you always had to have the exact right replacement bulb. The push in type could be different 'plug' types, different diameters, different wattages. But most of all, why was it that you carefully put the lights away, in working condition, after Christmas, that when you got them out again the next Christmas they didn't work?
Thank God they came up with LEDs. My pictured one is the Christmas tree light that is the odd one out. It works, every time.

This wet day picture was taken at Derby Works. Looking at the build date of the class 24 and the allocation of the Metro-Vic I think it was taken in early April 1959 the 24 had just been built and was being tested before it went to Hither Green.
D5706 was a Metropolitan Vickers Co-Bo, it was built 05/12/1958 and went new to Derby (17A), that code is stencilled on the front. The loco was withdrawn 07/09/1968 and cut at Cashmore's Great Bridge
D5012 was built at Derby works, 11/04/1959, it was allocated to Crewe (South) but went from Derby to Hither Green 18/04/1959. The loco was withdrawn as 24012, 16/08/1975 and cut at Doncaster Works 29/02/1976.

Lima Locomotive Works Shovel and Crain Division, see the builder's plate, which appears to be actually cast with the frame. Based on preliminary research this is likely a pre-WW2 piece of equipment.
The factory was founded in 1934 for the production of Hydronalium. It operated as magnesite works from 1947 to 1990.
