When I say that I'm a "travel photographer" (which is not actually something I say a lot, but it's been mentioned), I don't mean that I fly around the world to National Geographic locations. I generally don't fly at all.*
By travel, I mean that I generally don't shoot at home. I travel (drive) to the locations I photograph.
Usually, it's about three to five hours away from where I live. And often it's just a daytrip.
Once a year, I am fortunate enough to take a month off and travel the US by car. Then, I am mostly camping, staying in hotels only when I "have" to. Usually the camping is free and in a tent. I don't like sleeping in my car.
For me, photography is how I interpret the world outside of my daily world. I don't carry a camera with me basically ever (unless I'm traveling).
I'm sure flying with big cameras and film isn't that much of a pain in the ass. And I see the draw in being able to essentially teleport ones self to your destination. It allows you to explore that destination much more thoroughly than I am usually able to. There's a great benefit to this.
But I am also a travel photographer in the sense that I photograph what I see while I'm literally traveling.
In this photo, taken looking towards Steptoe Butte in the Palouse area of eastern Washington, I literally stopped on the road, got out of the car, grabbed my RB67, and took the shot.
I don't think there's some big controversy over what is and isn't travel photography (unlike the ridiculous arguments over what is and isn't street photography), but it's at least something to think about while I'm apparently taking some sort of break.
*I've flown three times in my life - 1984, 2007, 2020. Will I ever do it again?

It seems this is one of many moments where I don’t have the words to explain the meaning this image has for me personally and the thoughts, actions, pain, insight, experiences, doubts, victory, questions, growth, change (and much more) the creation of this photo holds for me. At the moment it seems to go beyond words for me.
This is the theme for Smile on Saturday and made me realize I didn't have any mugs with words on them. So off with my camera to the store where I found lots of wordy mugs. I wonder how many of us ended up in stores?
I think this is a Tomten instead of a Gnome. I have two books about Tomtens and three Tomtens around the house and really love them more than gnomes.

For Smile on Saturday theme; "Words".
Way back in the seventies, eighties, and early nineties, Doc and I would travel over the Cassiar Highway on our way to and from Alaska. At the time there was a Campground/RV Park called "Mighty Moe's". Mighty Moe was an eccentric backwoods character who entertained his campers with outrageous stories, and he also played a long-handled frying pan as a guitar. Moe was a delightful campground host and bent over backwards to make sure you had a happy experience. Sadly, a forest fire eventually took Moe's beautiful area from him, and he passed away shortly after. We were told that his heart was broken after the devastating fire.

Backstory; I always wore my Lel Raven head, always.
I changed shapes, but I used to wrong head for the shape, bc, you know, I just graduated from Silly Goose university.
So my avi looking all cute with the wrong head for the shape but it’s ok. She’s cute.

So now that I’m wearing Avalon, completely by accident, and I’m blogging these gorgeous Glam Affair skins, it’s like the missing piece of the puzzle fell into place.

One of the few lights that still shines in Walpack Center, a town that nearly disappeared due to the defunct Tocks Island Dam Project. Walpack itself dates back to at least Oct. 26, 1731, and holds the distinction as the oldest municipality in the county, predating the state, and even the nation. The population is estimated to be 11. Walpack... a fascinating little place that time almost forgot... in a beautiful area of NJ that is so fun to get out and explore.
