In the year 999 the Lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion it is said that upon returning from the Alþingi, Þorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall. Hence its name Goðafoss ('waterfall of the gods').

The Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge") is a medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewelers, art dealers and souvenir sellers.
The bridge spans the Arno at its narrowest point where it is believed that a bridge was first built in Roman times. The Roman piers were of stone, the superstructure of wood. The bridge first appears in a document of 996. After being destroyed by a flood in 1117, it was reconstructed in stone but swept away again in 1333 save two of its central piers. It was rebuilt in 1345.
In order to connect the Palazzo Vecchio (Florence's town hall) with the Palazzo Pitti, in 1565 Cosimo I de' Medici had Giorgio Vasari build the Vasari Corridor above it. The Vasari Corridor is an elevated enclosed passageway (the yellowish part of the structure above the shops to the right in the photo), which begins on the south side of the Palazzo Vecchio, it then joins the Uffizi Gallery and leaves on its south side, crossing the Lungarno dei Archibusieri and then following the north bank of the River Arno until it crosses the river at Ponte Vecchio.
The Vasari Corridor was commissioned in connection with the marriage of Cosimo's son, Francesco, with Johanna of Austria. The idea of an enclosed passageway was motivated by the Grand Duke's desire to move freely between his residence and the government palace, when, like most monarchs of the period, he felt insecure in public, in his case especially because he had replaced the Republic of Florence.

I only just made it to witness this sunset as it quickly dipped behind the Cape (Cape Woolamai), leaving golds and reds to light the sky in it's wake.
I am away with work part of this week then off to Singapore with a girlfriend for a week so am mostly off for the next few weeks.
I'm sorry I will miss your images during that time.
I was stood on Eastbourne Pier with the wind whistling all around making it difficult for me to hold my camera steady.
When I spotted these two figures on the deserted beach. The girl was approximately in her early to mid twenties wearing a flimsy summerlike dress. The male was approximately three times her age, in his early to mid sixties wearing a dirty white raincoat.
The girl hurriedly approached the waters edge and stopped. The male slowly followed her and stopped directly behind her. The girl turned briefly to face him, whether or not words were exchanged I do not know, I was too far away. But in an instant the young girl turned away from him and entered the water. He stood motionless watching as she ventured further and deeper into the water until she disappeared out of sight beneath the crashing waves. He slowly turned and walked away without a backward glance.
What had I just witnessed? The girl had disappeared into the sea and he had disappeared mingling amongst the myriad of people on the crowded promenade. Should I call the Police and tell them what I had just seen, or should I too walk away and disappear?
If I call the Police would they believe me, more to the point, do you believe me.
What would you have done?

Sarah Mclachlan - Witness
The scuffles we witnessed on the lek usually involved a couple of birds facing off and trying to grab feathers from each other. These two birds, however, were much more committed to conflict-- multiple times we saw them latch on to each other and end up rolling on the ground as they tried to get the other to submit. They always strutted away, apparently no worse for the wear, but it was a bit unnerving. They were definitely the exception to what we saw, though.

After witnessing a stunning display of wildlife ranging from Pheasants, Crows, Hares, Curlews and Buzzards all doing their own thing. The Red kite continued to finish it's freshly caught lunch perched up high on a tree branch without a worry in the world then surveys the land, content with a full belly.
