Week 5 - Photo theme of the week - Spectacular winter
Semaine 5 - Thème photo de la semaine - Spectaculaire hiver
FriYAY! I plan to spend my weekend reading The Winter of the Witch! How many of you have already started (or finished)?❄️📖 . I haven’t been this excited about a book in a while... maybe when I read Name Of the Wind a couple years ago and am still (patiently) awaiting the final book in that series. 📚 . The Winternight trilogy is all one story, and a page turning adventure/fairytale. I highly suggest you dig in. And maybe burn a wintry candle when you do. 😊👌 fbrd.co/2h9l4FD
One winternight it just did not stop snowing- I took the picture in the early morning- everything was quiet and peaceful and most of all white!
"Veiled Witness," my intention was to explore themes of perception, vulnerability, and the unsettling nature of unseen threats within a cold, urban night. This piece presents a figure whose eyes are dramatically obscured by a dark cloth, immediately drawing the viewer into a state of empathy and unease. Despite the blinding, the figure stands upright, suggesting a quiet resilience or a forced stillness.
The backdrop is a stark winter street, dusted with snow and dimly lit by the yellow glow of distant streetlights. The subtle, yet piercing, blue and red lights of what appear to be emergency vehicles in the background add a layer of tension and an implied narrative of unseen events unfolding. The blurred figure in the foreground further emphasizes the focus on the veiled individual, creating a sense of intimate observation within a vast, cold environment. It's about how we navigate the world when senses are denied, the silent stories carried in the stillness of night, and the powerful symbolism of restricted sight.
