It was cold waiting in the wind for the moon to rise and hoping the clouds would clear enough to see it rising over the frozen lake. It was worth the wait!

White Balance: Correcting for Incandascent and Fluourescent Lights
North Station area
The Walkbridge to Boston Harbor and the old Bridge to Charlestown
I rediscovered the unique beauty of this place the other night when I was looking for a good vantage to get a shot of the Zakim Bridge. I do not think that everyone may share my perspective on this, that the place is indeed one to visit or even to capture. It takes a great imagination to do so but it brought me back to the time, many years before when I explored the area, especially of the walk bridge that was part of the old lock that controlled th flow of the Charles River. Most of the old lock was gone now, as a result of the Big Dig.
Except for the White Balance adjustment to correct the effect of incandascent light, there was no filter used. I like the play of the colors from the light and the reflections on the water. The blending of colors from among the light sources, mainly incandascent and some localized fluourescent light -- created the various hues from light green, to blue to yellows and brown orange.

Aside from minor cropping, and the use of "unsharp image" and the automated resizing and "screen image optimization" to reduce the diskspace usage, no further image manipulation was done.
This photo is a failure. The composition and general lighting are very good, still, I overestimated the power of that speedlight and I did not get the thing to be sharp enough, despite my best efforts.
Miss Friday Winternight........aka Vampylina! (We haven't decided if we are giving her a new name or not). She is the cutest lil' vampire ever!

A bright full moon on the night sky called out for a photo session out in the cold. No tripod and between -25 and -30 degrees celsius made it a bit tricky. I forgot the tripod so I tried to steady my camera on the roof of the car. The red is the backlights reflecting in the snow.
