Post after work run. High 40s, no wind, and a decent hill workout. 8 miles later and a long day at work was put into perspective as the sun set.

Finally, Friday, self portrait. A novel, the cat, scrubs-as-pajama pants, well-loved couch, home. Not pictured: my husband in the kitchen making broccoli cheese soup, and the dog, snoring underfoot. The weekend is off to a good start. I needed tonight to be what it is, I think.

She was happy to be outside with me after supper - having spent 5.5 hours worrying about mom out gardening alone... These days she can't be trusted to not eat things that upset her stomach, so if I'm busy she stays in the house or in the sun-room - neither of which is to her liking. Depth captured by leaving lots of breathing room in the image and by shooting towards an opening in the lilacs giving the illusion of somewhere to go...

Missed focus selfie... about to start training for a marathon which reminds me to do the work. The work pays off. It doesn't always pay off in running the time I aim for, though that's the aim. It pays off in dividends when it comes to discipline and fitness and confidence. It pays off in discovering strength and limits. It pays off in joy on a good day and determination on a difficult one (or a mix of both on many days).

As in running so in life. The same lesson seems to apply in my relationships, in therapy, at work. Consistency and effort to do and be better as a runner teaches me to live a fuller life, because those skills produce health and well-being.

I'm grateful that running is my thing. I know it's not for everyone, but I hope you have a something that helps you understand yourself and the world better as you work the process.

(i forgot to post this on here, oops!)

It’s December 1st which means it’s day 1 of my 31 day project #31dayswithholly. If you saw my last post you’ll know that I’m seeing out 2018 with a self portrait a day until the new year. I wanted to start this project by diving into all my unused props that I’ve accumulated over the years (you know the ones that you buy and think oh I’ll use that soon... 2 years later 👀 ha!).

This image is inspired by one of my best friends masterpieces (see my insta stories!) @steph_rid1 created an octopus plate and it’s epic!

can't get more "autumnal" than this... 🍁
