· In Photoshop

    · Created multi layered gradients, to represent different depths into the image & used it to control Lens Blur on the duplicate layer.

    · Fixed little girl's hair color (it had turned purple) by painting on new layers - one set to Darker Color blend mode, one set to Color blend mode

    · Added a little more color to the little girl's mouth

    · Merged everything into a Smart Obj.

    · Duplicated the frame and transformed it by rotating 90 degrees and adjusting the dimensions to match the photo again. Then set its blend mode to Linear Dodge.

    · Merged the two frame layers into a smart obj.

    · Added an Invert adjustment layer over the frame smart obj.

    · Added a Hue/Sat adjustment layer over the frame smart obj, Hue +100

    · Grouped frame smart obj and adjustment layers, then added a luminance mask to tone down the colors and edges.

    · Used another frame (www.flickr.com/photos/fabulousminge/4253253205/in/pool-tt) to build a mask for the photo, with the rounded corners and worn look.

The Longest War

Now in its 16th year, the war in Afghanistan shows no sign of ending. If anything, the Taliban are resurgent, despite additional American troop deployments and our dropping the largest non-nuclear bomb in our arsenal. Meanwhile, Al Qaeda and ISIS remain active in the region, threatening the stability of both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
