Rosemary Rutherford's 20th century so-called Corn window in St Faith's church, Gaywood, King's Lynn. A memorial to James Gale and William Robert Burridge, it takes the harvest time text, ' So is the Kingdom of God ; first the blade, then the ear and then the corn in the ear' . Harvest time flowers like poppies are included in the detail, as is the red-legged partridge but there are springtime flowers too - iris and tulip.

The church of St John the Baptist at Wolverley has medieval origins but what we see today is the result of a complete rebuilding in 1772. The architect is unknown, but the building makes a powerful statement in brick, with deeply recessed arches adding a touch of shadowy drama to the round-headed nave and tower windows, as if part of a viaduct had been glazed-in to form the church. The rather later timber-framed porch doesn't sit quite as well in this setting.

The interior is light and spacious, plastered throughout and still retaining its galleries in the nave. The effect is still very late Georgian aside from the Victorian screen and stained glass in the chancel. There are a couple of reminders of the previous church, the late medieval font and a 14th century knight's effigy, both in the south aisle.

Wolverley church is an impressive building and happily one that welcomes visitors, being normally kept open during the day.

During my mail run I found this: iconic Flipje making a jump. The cat was a curious little feller. It kept looking at me with big eyes even when I cycled out the street, except when I took the picture ofcourse.

See Where

I found this window writing in an empty classroom at Kabul University. The window was illuminated by the early morning light as water droplets slowly condensed into small trickles that ran down the glass. The colors and shapes outside became more distinct as the writing disappeared.

One of the stained glass windows inside St. Fidelis Catholic Church, aka. the Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria, Kansas. The windows were finished and installed in 1916 and they cost $3,000. This window depicts his parents finding a young Jesus in the temple.

The church was built from 1908-1911. The cornerstone was laid on October 4, 1909 and the church was dedicated August 27, 1911. It is the fourth church on the site with several of the stone of the third church used in the interior walls. In 1912 William Jennings Bryan nicknamed it the "Cathedral of the Plains" and the name has stuck. The building is 220 feet long and the outer walls rise 27 feet. The twin towers rise 141 feet and our topped with a twelve foot cross. The stone is native Ellis County limestone quarried by hand and hauled to Victoria. In 2008 it was named one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas by the Kansas Samplers Foundation.
