Energy is stored in thermally dense ceramic bricks inside the furnace that are heated anywhere from 650 degrees Celsius for a room heater, and as high as 870 degrees C for a furnace. The energy is stored for up the three days. Photo David Dodge, GreenEnergyFutures.ca

These things are huge! Compare them to the power lines or the trees. These are north of Marysville, WA.

Researchers at PNNL and BPA have identified a site they call Yakima Minerals that is about 10 miles north of Selah, Wash., and could house an 83-megawatt geothermal compressed air energy storage facility.

Not the first views from Day 2 of the roadtrip. I just thought y'alls might like to see some energy production in progress. 😁😎

It makes me sad when I see the windmills not turning, mainly because I know a global warming non-believer will jump on it to show how the wind isn't reliable - I guess this one has siezed up however as there is always a breeze down here stuck out into the atlantic.

Hope you are all good - I'm still having motivation related issues with my two hobbies photography and running- well I'm on flickr and a run after tea so I am trying today!

Just outside of Cle Elum after we got on the wrong road. Taken from a moving car.

I've never seen so many fans, all in one place. This shot is the cropped version, there were a lot more. All in different shapes and sizes.

Climate Change was a key topic at the Arctic Council Ministerial Meeting. All 8 Arctic countries' Ministers demonstrated commitment, including a strong statement from US Foreign Minister John F. Kerry, to reduce climate gas emissions, including Short-lived Climate Pollutants. During the Kiruna Ministerial Meeting 15 May Arctic Ministers signed the Kiruna Declaration, Vision for the Arctic, Senior Arctic Officials Report to Ministers, and an Agreement on Cooperation on Marine Oil Pollution Preparedness and Response in the Arctic. In addition, several scientific assessments and reports by the working groups, task forces, and expert groups of the Arctic Council were also approved.

Wind farms are a fairly common sight on the Cornish landscape, and while not everyone likes them I think they add a certain beauty to the landscape.

I do not understand how the debate in the UK is still raging about these things. "They are ruining the landscape, they make noise blah blah blah". For crying out loud, if we don't sort out our problem with energy there won't be a damn landscape to look at.

One of the popular conceptions of Germans in the UK is that they are ultra efficient. I cannot believe that the Germans haven't had the debate about how efficient these wind turbines are, yet we are still being told that they cannot make enough power to warrant their being used as a serious alternative, that they kill birds, that Nuclear Power is the only way to go. These are a blot on the landscape and a Nuclear Power station isn't? What? Have we seriously got to the point where we are now thinking that Nuclear is a good idea again? What PR company managed to slide that one past everyone?

So why are wind turbines all over Germany? I live in a very rural area 60 km north of Hannover, and they are all around me. I think that they look fantastic, and the wind being harnessed as a source of energy is hardly a new idea...

A walk to the Cheyne Court Windfarm on Romney Marsh that turned into trek, having taken the wrong path! Was unable to get up close, but great day for a hike....

Keep track of ALL of the names, vote them all out. Politicians want to keep their jobs more than anything else at all. (Why wouldn't they?) I see a better future of sustainable, rational, negotiation in the interest of all of the people not just monied lobbies that support the current political statusquo. That sustainable future is "blowing in the wind" (Shot last week on I-80, where the western pioneers crossed "south pass")

There's a lot of wind turbines on the Outer Hebrides, mostly small-scale affairs like this one which was adjacent to the ferry terminal on Berneray. A real breeze was blowing, as it had been all day, and even a fast shutter speed (1/250s) still allowed an appreciable amount of motion blur.

When sufficient money and determination of purpose are available to developers of electric power generation , both in the Erewash Valley and throughout all of England , pounds, and not just pennies, can be cut from council and income tax bills. The pictured generator is sited between Eastwood and Ilkeston , where there is space for many more.
