I do not understand how the debate in the UK is still raging about these things. "They are ruining the landscape, they make noise blah blah blah". For crying out loud, if we don't sort out our problem with energy there won't be a damn landscape to look at.
One of the popular conceptions of Germans in the UK is that they are ultra efficient. I cannot believe that the Germans haven't had the debate about how efficient these wind turbines are, yet we are still being told that they cannot make enough power to warrant their being used as a serious alternative, that they kill birds, that Nuclear Power is the only way to go. These are a blot on the landscape and a Nuclear Power station isn't? What? Have we seriously got to the point where we are now thinking that Nuclear is a good idea again? What PR company managed to slide that one past everyone?
So why are wind turbines all over Germany? I live in a very rural area 60 km north of Hannover, and they are all around me. I think that they look fantastic, and the wind being harnessed as a source of energy is hardly a new idea...
Windmill stands alone on a hill and is still nearly taller than the couple of trees around it. Cornfield lies all around, making the windmill look gaunt.

Small scale windpower sort of works in rural, off-grid situations for small energy needs. That's where I don't mind them. I do however think that large scale wind generation is utterly insufficient to run our ever increasing power needs. Nobody would built them without massive subsidies and it just puzzles me how environmentalist think plastering these mega turbines all over our nature and mountains is 'green' by any definition.
They belong to the 'Unreliables' just like solar panels and will be a huge garbage/recycling liability for coming generations.

While Amanda and I were driving home, I noticed the possibility for a good sunset. There weren't a ton of options available, so I made use of wind turbines again. I think photographing these is turning into an unofficial project for me...
This is someplace near Fluvanna, TX, if I recall correctly. I didn't make a not of the exact location so I'll have to spend some time in Google Maps and see if I can figure it out.

Taken at the archipelago of Ã…land close to Nyhamn. Sun had just went down and i saw the iconic wind-powerplants, that dominated the view from our old summer place.
This time I was on a cruise ship and just managed to get the shot before they passed out of view.
Residents of the Columbia Gorge have found one advantage to the terrible wind storms that they experience: Wind Power!
I'm not sure what the ground cover is, but it lends a velvety texture over the smooth contours of the land.
