A few hundred people gathered in mid-December* to rally for Wikileaks and Julian Assange. Assange was still under arrest in Britain at the time.

I don't recall seeing any banners praising Bradley Manning, the US army private whose alleged actions put Wikileaks and Assange into the spotlight, and put himself into a military prison. But I might have missed them.

* Yep, mid-December. I've been that slack with the editing.

the march was cancelled as the police said they didn't have enough resources due to Oprah's visit (she was doing a show at opera house). after the rally some of the protesters walked down george street on the footpath. the police cars drove slowly alongside. so they ended up blocking the traffic (cars were sounding the horn as the police cars were half across the road blocking the oncoming traffic when lights changed) there was even a helicopter overhead (probably one of the patrol ones around since oprah's visit)

Several people were arrested when the protesters stalled while crossing the street, blocking traffic for longer than the police felt necessary. Of course, the actual arrests kept the intersection blocked for even longer.

The protesters were forced to walk on the footpath for their march to the US embassy on Martin Place. This caused some friction between protesters and police, given that the latter had already blocked one side of the street for their escort.

(I have no idea what the banner is about. Unfortunately, "Graphic Communication" isn't a compulsory subject for banner makers.)
