Box of Chocolates, Part 3. Wide Field Astrophotography is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’ll get. The same photo on different nights can look very different. That’s one of the things I love about night photography. Here are 2 panoramas of The Mittens in Monument Valley, Utah, from roughly the same spot on different nights. There is wonderful green and red airglow on the left in the bottom photo, absent in the upper photo. I am continuing on my panorama binge, but this gives me a chance for a “two’fer”, 2 panos for the price of one (and they fit better on IG to boot). Top pano done with a 24 mm lens vertically, second photo done with a 35 mm lens vertically, each approximately 12-13 images combined in Lightroom. This lies within the Navajo Tribal Park and you need a guide to go there at night. If you are interested contact Majestic Monument Valley Tours and ask for Quanah. Hope you enjoy! Wayne

Estátua Mariana Torres.

Mariana Torres, a cannery worker murdered in 1911 during a demonstration in defense of workers' rights.

The statue by Jorge Pé-Curto in Largo da Fonte Nova was unveiled on International Women's Day in 2016.

The sculpture, measuring four meters high and two meters wide, made of white marble, depicts the face of a woman with her eyes blindfolded, a motif that evokes the "Setúbal Executions," an event that occurred on March 13, 1911, on Avenida Luísa Todi, in which Mariana Torres and António Mendes, cannery workers, were killed during a struggle for better working conditions.

A double exposure experimenting with a new lens, the ultra wide Rokinon 12mm F2. This is the first time I've had something this wide before. I can't wait to get in the mountains with this thing.

I'll be posting more images from my time with the Otter and Heron, but for now here's two very contrasting images of a female Kingfisher...

This time a wide angle image showing the Kingfisher's habitat. Anyone who has been following my photography will know I really like images like this that show the environment, as I think it tells more of a story of the subject. Portrait images with blurred backgrounds still very much have their place, but in combination it builds a varied portfolio. In my eyes at least!

This image was taken remotely using a CamRanger - I was able to control the focus and settings from a hide using my iPad.

Located in the State of Arizona, the Painted Desert, wedged between Petrified Forest National Park, and the Grand Canyon, offers fantastic wide open spaces to view and relish.

Come pull a sheet over my eyes so I may sleep tonight,

despite what I´ve seen today

I find you guilty of a crime of sleeping at a time

when you should have been wide awake

Ciao!

I've been wondering for a while how to get wide angle bokeh. Last night went out for a bit of night shooting. Here's downtown Portland, OR reflected in the Willamette River.

That everything you see

Ain't always what it seems

I'm wide awake."

This sunset panorama was merged from 4 hand held shots that were taken with a bit shorter focal length than the first ones - 225 mm with the 90-280 mm Apo Vario Elmarit.

After merging in Lightroom I masked the sky with AI to edit it separately regarding colours and contrast which is allowing much more fine tuning for tonal values of the overall picture. I guess that Anselm Adams would have used those tools too with enthusiasm as they make it much easier if we remember all that skilled manual work he did to get the best results from his negatives.
