with bright yellow centers. Isn't it fun to think spring? It begins today! :-)

The very first signs of spring

Another winter has come and gone, and nary a snowflake fell where we live in spite of the few blasts of freezing cold temps we received. Admittedly a snow day might have been fun I'll happily settle for the Snowflakes still blooming in my garden.

Farewell to Winter and Hello Spring! Thought you'd never get here!

"Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems"

Sorry for long break everyone. last few weeks i was hammered by tests and mid-terms! T.T I had a long and relaxing spring break to help me back in shape and finally took the time to take some spring pictures. The weather has been gorgeous the past few days, but today seem a bit cloudy.

Aside from relaxing I spent most of my spring break playing the new Final Fantasy game. I gotta say that the game has some stunning graphics, thought the gameplay has changed alot. The game seem more linear. Hopefully it doesnt take me like years to fininsh this one XD Have a great week! visiting your stream soon^^

A beautiful image of a Bradford Pear tree blooms and a hummingbird. I have used textures and effects to give the image a painterly look. Pyrus calleryana, the Callery pear, is a species of pear native to China and Vietnam,[2] in the family Rosaceae. It is a deciduous tree growing to 5 to 8 m (16 to 26 ft) tall,[3] often with a conic to rounded crown. The leaves are oval, 4 to 8 cm (1.6 to 3.1 in) long, glossy dark green above, and slightly paler below. The white, five-petaled flowers are about 2 to 2.5 cm (0.79 to 0.98 in) in diameter. They are produced abundantly in early spring, before the leaves expand fully.

The fruits of the Callery pear are small (less than one cm in diameter), and hard, almost woody, until softened by frost, after which they are readily taken by birds, which disperse the seeds in their droppings. In summer, the foliage is dark green and very smooth, and in autumn the leaves commonly turn brilliant colors, ranging from yellow and orange to more commonly red, pink, purple, and bronze. Sometimes, several of these fall colors may be present on an individual leaf. However, since the color often develops very late in fall, the leaves may be killed by a hard frost before full color can develop.

Callery pears are remarkably resistant to disease or blight though they are regularly killed by strong winds, ice storms, heavy snow, or limb loss due to their naturally excessive growth rates. Some cultivars, such as 'Bradford', are particularly susceptible to storm damage.

The Canadian Tulip Festival / Festival Canadien des Tulipes in Ottawa the capital city of Canada

The Canadian Tulip Festival began after the Second World War, when Princess Juliana of the Netherlands presented Ottawa with 100,000 tulip bulbs as a token of friendship in 1945.

Canada had provided asylum for the Dutch royal family during the war and played a strong role in the Netherlands’ liberation. While the royal family sought refuge in Ottawa, Princess Juliana gave birth to Princess Margriet on January 19th 1943 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. The Canadian government temporarily declared the room “Dutch soil,” to ensure that the Princess would remain in line for the throne.

The Netherlands continues to give Ottawa 20,000 tulip bulbs every year.

Ottawa’s first Canadian Tulip Festival took place in May 1953 and opened with an inauguration ceremony at Parliament Hill.

The Canadian Tulip Festival has grown into the largest annual display of tulips in North America.

The Canadian Tulip Festival is also a celebration of the return of spring, with over a million tulips in 50 varieties blooming in public spaces across the National Capital Region.

Albany Tulip Festival in the capital city of Albany, New York, USA,

The Tulip Festival is Albany’s signature spring event. Featuring annual traditions rooted in the city’s rich Dutch heritage, nearly one hundred artisans selling their handmade crafts, a fine arts show, delicious food, the KidZone family fun destination, two stages of world-class live entertainment and more than 140,000 tulips in 150 different varieties, the Tulip Festival is a sparkling showcase of local culture and business. It all takes place in historic Washington Park, the 81-acre “crown jewel” of the City.

Mayor Erastus Corning 2nd declared the tulip as Albany's official flower on July 1, 1948, there has been a Tulip Festival every year since.

On July 11, 1948 Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands selected the "Orange Wonder", an 18-inch tall tulip that is orange-shaded with a scarlet toward the center as Albany's tulip.

The first Tulip Fest was celebrated the next year on May 14, 1949 with opening ceremonies still carried on today as tradition, such as the sweeping of State Street and the crowning of a Tulip Queen.

In 1997 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the festival the state of New York designated Albany as the "I Love New York Spring Destination"

For the 50th anniversary a descendant variety of the "Wonder Orange" tulip was found in the Netherlands, and the new variety was named "City of Albany"

It’s spring fever.

That is what the name of it is.

And when you’ve got it, you want — oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!

(Mark Twain)

It’s March 20th, the official Beginning of Spring. It’s also the day we got married (civil wedding) and tomorrow will be the REAL wedding day…….. Hero Husband came home with a wonderfully smelling Swiss ‘Butterzopf’, a sort of braided bread, lovely :) We’ll have it tomorrow morning with fresh organic eggs, great French butter and honey, preceded by a fresh orange juice, and maybe either a ‘Birchermuesli’ (muesli with fresh fruit, nuts, yoghurt and berries from our garden) or ‘just’ an organic yoghurt.

Happy Spring Beginning - Happy Birthdays - Happy Anniversaries - I have 3 birthdays in two days to celebrate PLUS our own and some other friends' wedding anniversary!
