One more day and the crocuses will bloom......

Not perfect, but it's still a very pretty magnolia flower.
I will have to wait at least a month for them to bloom again.
"In 1989, the American Ornithologists’ Union split the Western Flycatcher into two species: Pacific-slope Flycatcher (Empidonax difficilis) and Cordilleran Flycatcher (Empidonax occidentalis), on the basis of vocal differences, differences in allozyme frequencies, and an area of sympatry in the Siskiyou region of northern California, where they were reported to mate assortatively.
Ever since then, these two species have been causing headaches for birders all across western North America. The conventional wisdom is that they are impossible to identify by plumage or structure, even in the hand. Voice is the only field mark."

Spring, that is. The flowers, plants and trees are waking up, showing off and celebrating the arrival of spring.
These Bearded Iris in our garden are standing tall, and doing their part to welcome spring. Couldn't resist grabbing the camera to get a few shots to help with the celebration!
Shot taken on the banks of the River Ruhr near Witten, Germany, on a late afternoon with the sun starting to set. In the background you can see the tower of castle Burg Blankenstein with offers a stunning view across the beautiful Ruhr valley. Three image AE-bracket shot, developed in Lightroom and HDR-Effex 2.

The last of winter killed most of the blooming flowers, but this Camellia tree is loaded! with pink, looking better than ever-a true survivor!
Welcome Spring!
Large view is nice.
Many thanks to all those who view, fav & comment my pictures. I very much appreciate it.
Close up of a bunch of pinkish poppies surrounded by the sunlight... Looks like Nature knows Spring is round the corner, just one more day...
If the skies fall, one may hope to catch larks.

From the same series of shots as the other Gull shot....same gull btw
:~)
Not what I was planning on uploading today… but I'm not near my external drive.
Much better large on black, methinks.
Oh, yes, hbw indeed. :)
I think it's time to say goodbye to winter and welcome spring! The flowers we can see in spring are among the most gorgeous there are. Even more gorgeous is just the Bokeh the Pentacon 50 mm lens produces - looks like a freakin painting ;-D.
The last few days of winter are here and it's time to say goodbye. The winter wasn't quite what I had hoped for and expected in terms of the weather but there will always be another. Now I'm really excited about spring and the opportunities it will bring. So goodbye winter and welcome spring! :)
There is a bit of ice in the background in this shot for those who doubt that this in
fact is winter :)
Migmatites have undergone partial melting with one or more minerals in a liquid state (usually the lightly colored feldspar and quartz) and the rest (dark colored minerals) remains in a solid to semi-solid state. These two components are mixed to form a migmatite. Here, both metamorphism and mixing are the result of subducting oceanic sediment deposited at the passive margin of ancient North America into an oceanic trench, thus exposing the sediment both to heat and pressure. This metamophosis happened about 1.7 billion years ago.
Some of the migmatites resulting from subduction into an oceanic trench show a completely appearance depending on the direction o view.
When viewed perpendicular to the movement into the trench (left), sometimes wild curly schlieren pattern appear, giving these migmatites a unique appearance. However, when viewed indirection of the movement into the trench (right), the curly pattern are disappear, just plain foliated parallel lines in the gneiss.
Common in this area are also migmatites based on amphibolites.
1,700Ma metasediment in the Beaver dam region (Welcome Springs, Utah). Specimen is about 40cm across.

These two components are mixed to form a migmatite. Here, both metamorphism and mixing are the result of subducting oceanic mud sediment from the passive margin of ancient North America into an oceanic trench, exposing the mud both to heat and pressure. This happened about 1.7 billion years ago.
This is a amphibolitic migmatite, about 100cm across
Migmatites have under gone metamorphosis resulting in the complete melting in one or more mineral component (usually feldspar and quartz, where present) forming the leucosome curly whitish bands. The remaining minerals are still in a ductile semi-solid state. In this case, a 1700 Ma metasediment was pushed down into an oceanic trench resulting in a typical banding pattern.
This is an amphibolitic migmatite. Common in this are also migmatites based on gneiss.Size: about 100cm across across.
Several of these large handsome birds dash around chasing each other. The low deep strides they take remind me of Groucho Marx....

This young thrasher has a goofiness about him that I find adorable.
Oro, sangre o marfil o tenebrosa
Como en sus manos, invisible rosa.
Jorge Luis Borges
This garnet schist (garnets are red inclusions) contains also hornblende (black) and Feldspar(white). The feldspar crystals are aligned and flattened in this sample, indicating metamorphosis under very high pressure. Indeed a straight crystal edge can be seen in many crystals on top at the weathered part of this specimen, all perpendicularly aligned to the direction of the flattening. Sample is about 15 cm. Detail of the weathered top can be seen here:

When I was shooting the other day I found this text (it says March in swedish) written in the snow by someone. I find it kind of funny because it's March the first tomorrow. Hope spring is on its way!
This is my next picture for my theme 'Welcoming Spring'.
It's spring and the skirts are shorter =)

I apologize for not being able to be visiting their galleries, friends. The university is choking on too many jobs and other things. It's a shame, because I love everything here!
We are in the week of spring here in Brazil, 23 days tomorrow, officially begins here in Brazil. The backyard of the house already has some flowers ... It's very beautiful! This was one of the first images I saw on Flickr (which was only about the fall-Michelle). I found it so beautiful and I tried to make one like that. I used a wallpaper that was here in the archives. Have one week blessed by God ... Hugs

Hugs...

Out my office window, I could see the evening blues fading to grey. I thought about driving to the beach, but thought, nah... it won't materialize. Suddenly, the sun must have squeezed some rays through a break in the clouds below the treeline. The clouds lit up a brilliant red, with the thinner ones blending to purple. And then... as fast as it showed up, it was gone.
In the summer this will all be obscured by leaves.
