For Active Assignment Weekly: "Beat the Heat"
What can be better on a hot day than a tall glass of water?
WIT: I placed glass in front of sunshiny window. Then shot away with a shallow depth of field. I converted to black and white and boosted the contrast in Photoshop elements.
Hey everyone, welcome back to another 'Weekly Recommendations'! There is no theme this week so let's just get to the recommendations!
Robocop: This is just a classic movie, one of the best cheesy movies ever. It's actually a rather dark comedy with really cool action. Also the visual effects are so bad in this movie that it's hilarious! I see this movie on TV every once and a while so that is probably the only way you could check it out. Or you could get the Netflix DVD. It's one of my favorite movies of all times, not because it's an amazing story, it's just a good time!
Mariokart Double Dash!!: This is my favorite Mario game ever. I loved the idea that you could choose two characters to race with because it let me be Bowser Jr. and Pete Piranha! The courses in Double Dash are the greatest, the music is the best, and I have just had so many good times with my friends playing this. If you have a gamecube or a Wii, get this game on Amazon or Ebay and get it, the graphics may not be as good as they are today, but it's still a great game!
Well, that's all for this week, folks! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave ideas for themes for recommendations for future 'Weekly Recommendations'! See ya!

I used this tangle with my Non-Dominent hand (believe it or not). I'm left handed when I'm drawing or writing, so I used my Right Hand to create this drawing.

I've had a love/hate relationship w/ this dress for many years now. But I thought it was fitting for a greek-themed movie date (Captain Corelli's Mandolin) & it's like a bajillion degrees out today. Plus it's very comfy, if not flattering.
Eyelet dress - F21
Brown tube - Fashions of Echo Park
Ballet flats - Accessorize circa '04
Flower pin - Miss Charity's Attic
Plastic flower ring - F21

Active Assignment Weekly: June 27 - July 4: Body Parts
Your assignment is to photograph body parts. Keep the props, or clothing to a minimum and really focus in on a body part. With that said PLEASE remember the group rules and keep it clean.
Dare: Make it abstract or hard to tell what part of the body you have chosen (please refrain from the cliche arm or leg crack made to look like a butt)
Restriction: No full face or full body shots, and as stated before no naughty areas.
WIT: Struggled with this one really. Finally lassoed a willing model, and as I was taking photos of the back of his neck, I saw this shot. We were both amazed at how freckled his fingers are as shown in the shot. Taken outside in evening cloudy light. Desaturated reds and added an inverted highpass filter with soft light blending after contrast and brightness adjustments. No cropping. I know it's grainy, but so is the owner of this fist.
Hey guys, so sorry about the late upload, I forgot yesterday! Anyways, because winter is here, here is my favorite winter-related game and movie!
Ice Age: Daaaaaamn, this movie takes me waay back. When I was a kid I was all into prehistoric mammals and stuff like that, and when I saw this movie, I instantly loved it, and even today, the story is good, the jokes are great, and it's not super kiddy. Now I think if you want to see a good Ice Age movie, just see this one because it's the only solid film our of the four movies. Ice Age 2 was ok, Ice Age 3 was good, but Ice Age 4 was sooooooooooo bad, it was torchure to see what they were doing to my favorite characters when I was a kid! Anyways, go check out Ice Age, it's awesome!
Assassin's Creed III: Now I know this game doesn't take place during the winter the whole time, but it takes place during winter most of the time. I think the reason this game is my favorite Assassin's Creed game is because at the same time while I was playing it, I was learning about the Revolutionary War in my American History class, so I knew all the characters they were referencing in the story. For some reason, everyone doesn't like this game because the story sucked, but I thought the story was awesome! This is my favorite Assassin's Creed game so you should definitely check it out if you have a Wii U like me; a PS3, like me; or an Xbox 360, not like me.
Alright, that's it for this week, if you have any other ideas for themes for 'Weekly Recommendations', please leave them in the comments, thanks!

Good Thursday Afternoon,
Time for my weekly batch of photos.
Last Friday, my mom, the twins, and I jumped in the car and took off for Lake Almanor.
Our goals:
1) Have a fun summer excursion
2) Give Chelsey a few days of peace and quiet
We succeeded on both fronts.
The boys earned their 'road tripper badges' with another outstanding performance in the car. Nana played the role of iPad, successfully entertaining the boys for a good seven hours out of the Bay Area, up I5, through the foothills, and into the Sierras. Nana has skills.
The most eventful portion of our trip came on Highway 36 just west of Payne's Creek. A wildfire fire reached the highway just before we did. Stopped by CHP, I jumped out to snap some photos of the fire fight. There were 4 planes, 1 helicopter, and dozens of CalFire personnel working in remarkable unison. Most of the visible action was in the air. The spotter planes would swoop in, and scout for the bigger DC-7 bomber that followed with the flame retardant. I felt like such a tourist when I turned to a guy next to me and asked if he had any info on when they might re-open the road. Through crooked teeth, and a funky, graying, goatee he said that he wasn't sure, but that he hoped they stopped the fire soon enough to keep his place up the ridge from burning down. He never took his eyes off the 'show' as we spoke. "Go guys, Go!" he said as the bomber dropped another red payload below his house. I wished him luck and walked back to the car. My 30 minute inconvenience paled in comparison to what that guy was facing.
Today, it felt pretty good to read that only one, non-residential, structure was lost in the 100 acre "36 Fire". CalFire's hard work saved that guy's house, and everything inside it. Way to go guys.
After a quick stop in Chester, we arrived at Aunty Tuna's house. The Imai clan arrived not long thereafter.
First night in camp. Catchup conversations in full-swing. Amazing Almanor sunset. All's right in the world.
Sunday morning opened with a bike ride. Yuji lead the way down Peninsula Drive and back up Lassen View. County Sheriff pulled the boys over. Said they were going a bit fast. Their fine was a firm handshake and a smile.
Monday, we went to "The Hole" on the Feather River. I'm happy to report that the jumping rocks are still high, the water is still very cold, and the Orange Crush tastes just as sweet.
Tuesday, we rented a pontoon boat and cruised the lake. We raced birds, saw an island, contemplated a snow-less Mount Lassen, and lunched in Prattville. On the way home, we anchored in a cove. Yuji, Will, & Rob took turns jumping off the boat into the lake. Life jackets were a revelation. All the benefits of floating, none of the work. Out, and back, the boys took turns captaining the ship. Our only close call came when this old man tried to get the boat back into dock. Took a few tries, but we got it done without any insurance claims or major injuries.
Amidst all the fun, Nana watched the boys so I could sneak out fishing with Uncle Bruce and Bill Elliott. Fish per hour were low. Satisfaction quotient was off the charts. Being in those mountains, on the Feather River, is definitely is my happy place.
The photo of the photo was taken on the steps of the Elliott cabin outside Chester. My mom's dad, Papa, is in the front row on the right. The photo had to be taken 60 years ago. I smile every time I it.
Growing up, I always looked forward to our two-week vacations to Almanor. I loved the time spent fishing, lounging, and bonding with my family. Especially my cousins.
Watching my kids, the 4th generation of our family, build their own memories at the lake is pretty awesome.
We have heritage there.

Big thanks to Aunty Tuna and Coach for hosting this year's adventure.
Have a great weekend!
