Teddy was rescued from the shelter 11 years ago this weekend. Not realizing it was all part of his quiet, sweet and polite nature, we thought he seemed lonely and sometimes melancholy. We interpreted that to mean that he might have been missing a buddy, and we spent some time in search of the perfect companion for him—one with a gentle and equally sweet personality. On a visit to the same shelter a year to the day when we first met Teddy, we found little 7 week-old Ollie. All along, I had hoped to bring home an older female cat, but as some of you may have heard before, a wink from the kitten that looked so much like a mountain lion in miniature won me over at first sight. Long story short, it seems that Teddy may have been perfectly content as a ‘single kitty’...lol...but it’s often clear that he loves his pesky buddy just the same...
This is a shot of the boys on ‘their’ bed this morning...haha, yes, it’s very ‘girly’...but it does match their pink noses...lol ;-)
They’ve been hanging out together a lot lately, just like they used to when they were both new around here. It never fails to make me smile...
I first started using a digital DSLR Easter weekend ten years ago and at about the same time I started using Flickr and after ten years and many, many photographs I am still surprised by the fact that I discover something new almost every day.
Today I thought that it might be a good idea to photograph scenes and events relating to Easter so I visited Merrion Square with the intention of photographing this public art installation because I thought that it depicted the removing of Jesus from the cross. While I was photographing a young girl asked her mother “is that God lying on a table” but I discovered that it is a lot more complicated that that.
This figurative sculpture, The Victims originated as a part of an unexecuted project for a war memorial for Washington, DC. The artist, Andrew O’Connor, conceived the idea of a huge war memorial in about 1918 and worked on the project until at least 1931. However, no such monument was ever commissioned from him. The memorial consisted of three sections. The first of which was a group of three figures; a dead soldier strapped to a bier, mourned by his wife and his mother. The figure of the dead soldier is The Victim, inscribed with the words; ‘Naked you came into the world’, the kneeling figure of The Wife with her hands clasped in prayer is variously called The Virgin or Mother of Sorrows. She is inscribed; ‘As cranes chanting their dolorous notes traverse the sky’ which is taken from a translation of Dante’s Inferno. The standing female figure of The Mother of the Hero leans mournfully on her left elbow. The Victim was presented by the family of the sculptor to the Dublin Municipal Gallery (now Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane) in 1947 while the other two figures were presented to the gallery by the sculptor in 1938. As is often the case with O’Connor’s work he produced other versions of some of these figures. A plaster version of The Victim is in the O’Connor family collection and a version of The Wife is at the Tate Gallery, London. The group would have been assembled with The Victim on a raised plinth, his wife kneeling at his head, his mother standing at his feet. The Victims was installed in 1976 following an exhibition to mark the centenary of the sculptor’s birth at Trinity College Dublin in 1974. It would appear that it was not until 1974 that the three figures were displayed together as originally intended creating this uncompromising figurative representation of the victims of war.
Born in Worchester, Massachusetts, USA in 1874, Andrew O’Connor was the son of an Irish-American sculptor of the same name. Having studied under his father, O’Connor Jr. began working regularly on public monuments and funerary commissions in the United States. In London c.1894-8, he met John Singer Sargent and assisted him on reliefs for his Boston Library decorations. Andrew O’Connor’s style was formulated by the time he first visited Paris in about 1903 and his earliest work is in the Franco-American style which had become popular in America by 1900. Unlike the majority of other American sculptors he remained in France and worked from a Paris studio up to 1914. From 1906 on he exhibited annually at the Salon in Paris and at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin in 1907. He then returned to the USA from 1914 to the mid 1920s and received numerous commissions for funerary and public monuments including the monument to Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois and the Theodore Roosevelt memorial at Glenview, Chicago. O’Connor spent his last years in Europe, first in Paris, then from c. 1932 between Ireland and London. He resided in Dublin for the last seven months of his life and passed away at his home at No.77 Merrion Square.

If there's one event you must always consider going to then it has to be the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust's Annual Open Weekend in October. It's an extremely well run and family friendly event with around 180 vehicles to see and enjoy. There are two frequent bus routes to sample the buses plus six themed tours involving up to five vehicles on each. The event is very popular with enthusiasts from far and wide attracting many, like myself, from the south of England!
Anyway, here's a selection of my photos from the weekend, including a few I snapped on the Friday before the event. Well done team GVVT, your sterling efforts are appreciated by many!
Just chillin.
On our last weekend in the country some friends came to hang out with us. I just happened to have the 70-300 mm on the camera and grabbed a bunch of portraits.
Feel free to leave feedback and criticism!
Did this photoshoot yesterday for Weekend Offender. First time I've done an actual shoot, so any feedback is very much appreciated, especially on the lighting which I've not really used before.

Just back from a great weekend. Started on Friday and finished this morning after breakfast. The weather was dry bright and cold but we were able to get out and about and also enjoy the entertainment put on by the organisers. It was just great meeting up again with friends, going shopping, visiting places and just generally meeting other girls and chatting.
I arrived on Thursday but did not dress until Friday morning. The photos above were taken before Breakfast. As I said it was a cold morning but after breakfast sat around chatting and relaxing reading the papers. Karen & Claire and their wives were arriving at lunchtime and then we would decide what to do for the afternoon. More about that later.

Misericordia University's 2022 Alumni Weekend was held June 3rd - 4th. It was full of fun activities for alumni who were able to reconnect with each other while also meeting alumni from other class years.
Highlights of the weekend included the Golden/Golden Plus Luncheon, Arch N' Vino, and Dr. Myers giving his first annual reunion address with alumni.
Enjoyed my last day of the family day long weekend today. Kath was away visiting friends in NYC so I had the entire weekend to myself in Toronto. Even had the chance to pick up some old cameras that I've forsaken since going compact. I've had no regrets going compact but I still haven't found a lens i love as much as Canon's FF 35L. Easily my favourite 35mm lens of all time. Admittedly I haven't shot with a Leica Summilux yet. One day maybe, in a future long weekend where I find manual focusing fun.
I've heard good things about the new Olympus 17mm f1.8 but think I might wait for the Fujinon 23mm 1.4 f1.4 to be finally released. Until then I have my trustly 35L, I just wish it was smaller.
This weekend saw some amazing cloud formations all throughout california. This was the best I could manage despite mother nature giving me everything to work with, I either forgot my batteries, or got kicked out of a spot from getting some shots that I really wanted. Well this upcoming weekend calls for partly cloudy skies, so I'm hoping for good things!
Yep, my weekend starts in a few minutes, I'm heading home to visit my grandma, she'll turn 80 tomorrow
Oh, I am so not photogenic. Funny how we look different in our minds. So this is the 16, no modifications. Sophie calls this my table cloth blouse. It's some kind of vintage man-made fiber that the senior's center was throwing out.
It is an interesting blouse to make. Liesl is the queen of facings.
We had the house to our selves this rainy weekend, so my wife let me dress for the whole weekend. I got to dress and act the part of a 14 year old girl since Friday evening. While I would never pass as a woman none the less a 14 year old girl, it is a fun fantasy. All the clothes I have come from the girls dept down to the panties and training bras. I ended up sleeping in this on Saturday night. While my wife doesn't mind playing along and even brings home girls clothes for me, she has no idea I have pictures or worse have posted them. So my photo opportunities this weekend were limited. Be sure to check my profile for a link to my other account with more pictures. Thanks for stopping by... Bobbie
Last weekend I attended the annual Cass Railfan Weekend hosted by the Mountain State Railroad & Logging Historical Association. This shot was from the first photography event, the night session at the C&O water tank.
While the Cass Scenic Railroad controls all of the track now, originally the tracks on the far side of the water tank were operated by the C&O and the logging mainline started at the tank where Shay #11 is sitting. If you look closely, you can see the ruins of the lumber drying kilns from the old lumber mill behind Western Maryland Shay #6.
