Mel Coffee's Focus Area class interviews veterans at the Veterans Expo in Ashland, KY

This is week two. A little late, but in at the landscape challenge of the Dogwood 52. Taken in Silverado, California using the Canon G7X

This photo has not been edited or processed. I am uploading on someone else's laptop, with a rural Portuguese internet connection.

There are fewer derelict houses in the Algarve than there were 5 years ago, but these can still be found with little searching.

Those of you who look at geo-tags may have noticed that my photo came from Leith last week, and Tavira this week. I have been home in between! Wonderful Husband and I have a very scattered family. Sometimes this seems good (for holiday purposes) but other times less so good.

I was in England that sunday and I hadn't internet.

This is an outtake and nothing special, but I hope you like it though.

Now Rory is over 4 months old, he is eligible for Tigger bouncer access (thanks to Uncle Gav and Aunty Marty)! He was a little unsteady the first couple of times, but now quite happily spins and bounces around.

In other news... this week I have been away nearly the whole week with work (5 nights), which was tough, but it didn't seem to affect Rory much as he had one of his busiest weeks yet. Monday was a meet-up with Mrs Scoop and Henry, then on Tuesday was Rory's first 'Rhythm time' class, followed by lunch out with 4 of his baby pals + associated mums. On Wednesday, Karen hosted her mummies group for the first time - 8 mums and 8 babies - chaos!

Wednesday night was Rory's first night through in his big-boy-cot in the nursery. We found that he was really waking himself up during his travels in the middle of the night as the crib isn't much bigger than he is. It is great now though as we don't have to creep around in the dark when we go to bed - getting undressed like a ninja in slow motion was starting to get a bit wearing! He's sleeping much better now though - a good move for all.

On Thursday, Rory had another big first - a swim in the local pool with his friend Isabelle. Other than crying before and after, it went well and he was splashing around for a full half hour.

Olive had a great week. Mommy did not. The last three weeks she's been the happiest she's ever been. She's been sleeping better, loves socializing, rolling like crazy, pulling her knees under her when she's on her belly and blowing raspberries like no one's business. But in the last three weeks she's gained no weight. The doctor has us supplementing with formula and I'm taking supplements, eating protein and drowning in gatorade. After going 4.5 months without a drop of formula, I was heartbroken to give her a bottle on Tuesday. After turning a corner on reflux, she's begun to spit up buckets again. But.. she's still happy and strong. She could care less what she eats. And if she starts gaining weight, then I guess I don't care either. I imagine parenthood is all about adjusting and letting go, I'm just getting some practice in early.

Back after a long hibernation. Didn't get to touch my camera for a couple of months and I see that all of you have already on week 18. Feels like waking up after a long sleep. Sometimes life pushes you through various situations and one needs to prioritize.

Attended the #flickr10 photo walk today in #bangalore. This guy asked us to take his picture and posed for us.

PS: Please don't smoke. It Kills.

Right then, a new year,a new project.

After giving the 365 a go last year, and stopping because I found myself just taking pictures to fill the gaps, I've decided to do a picture a week.

Taking the time to MAKE a picture, rather than just TAKE one.

Hopefully this goes a little better than last year.

Week: 38

Circumference: 43"

Belly Button: Looks like its pouting. Maybe it is.

Enjoying: Enough energy for a day-long improv class. Making some progress at 1.5cm dilation.

Feeling: Some signs of labor. The baby definitely dropped. I don't know why they call it lightening since it feels very heavy. I feel like the inside of my tailbone is bruised.

Movement: She's been squirmy. Especially at night. A little less so today but still in the "things are OK" range.

Sleep: A lot harder to come by this week. Either my brain is racing, I'm uncomfortable or a Braxton-Hicks contraction wakes me up. One dead-to the world sleep last night since the contractions let up for about a day.

Food: Pretty much standard eating habits. Got some fruit popsicles which have been tasting very good. Been craving chocolate pudding. But that is completely normal for me.

Anticipating: The end of the waiting. I've been tying up as many loose ends at work as possible.

shot out of my window , so no sensor cleaning needed hahaha

Week 25/52 ~ "Water"

So this week I am finally home from a whirlwind trip. Well, home for two weeks and then we are off again. But it is great being able to relax and try something new. And you can bet there will be some Hammock time in the backyard this weekend.

So this week got inspired to try something totally different. I started following a photographer by the name of Joel Robison. Don't know if you all have heard of him (I never had). But I kind of liked what I saw.

This is my interpretation of an inspired image I saw. Doesn;t even remotely come close, but it was certainly fun putting together. Tripod and a few paper boats....Viola!!!

Happy Weekend to ALL!!!

Well this was a definite challenge. I had no idea what a composite was when I started. This week was my daughters cheer competition in Abbotsford. As I thought about what I wanted to accomplish for a composite, I thought I would take the my daugheter's eye and expand the pupil and add a cheer image. Well I am not yet advanced enough to do this but after about 3-4 hours and experimentation with a brand new program to me this is what I came up with. I am happy with this first attempt at a composite image.

I took a walk around the Anglican cathedral in Liverpool, the worlds 5th largest, looking for shots for this week. I had thought the sheer amount of open space would provide perfect framing opportunities, but in the end I just found it overwhelming.

My shot came from a row of lights in a gallery above the smaller Lady Chapel at the back of the building. The contrast between lit and unlit walls provides good framing even though the subject is in the centre of the image.

On Thursday night we finally finished our taxes. I hatched a plan: get the kids down, head to the main post office downtown to mail the taxes, and then swing by the waterfront to get a photo for the “bench” theme this week.

While I was packing gear, my older son Sam asked me for about the 10th time whether he could stay up late and “count stars.” As the days are lengthening and bedtimes are unchanged, the previous nine answers have been “another day.” Since I was going out anyway, and it was clear night (a rarity this time of year in Oregon) I told him he could come with me to the waterfront and we could count some stars there.

Well, these days my younger son Jim wants to do everything Sam does. In fact, very little happens that is not done as a family unit. Next thing I know all four of us are in the car.

In the end, we all had a lot of fun. Taxes got mailed. Stars were counted. Pictures were taken. I felt a little guilty about keeping the younger set out well past bedtime, but by the time we got home we had two sleepers, both much the happier for our adventure.

Finally, there is no question that this type of shot is at least partially inspired by Dustin Diaz. If you have somehow managed to not see his work, check it out here. It's awesome.

Honest critiques always welcome.
