that's what this look on june's face means. she took up a new hobby this week... hunting and eating birds. i can't say i'm pleased with this new sport of hers, but there's not a lot i can do about it, other than not letting her outside or not letting her explore in the field. she started with fledgelings and worked her way up to snatching adults out of the air. have i mentioned that she's part hyena? she was keeping an eye on where big sister alice was, and offering a subtle growl if she dared step too close.
i had a fun idea in mind for the expression challenge this week but the weather has not cooperated at all and it doesn't look like it will change for the rest of the weekend. luckily i captured this expressive shot earlier in the week!
Week one:
October 1st - October 7th 2017
Self - Portrait
For anyone who knows me, I hate having my photos taken. I use to take photos of myself all the time when I was younger, but I outgrow it. I think it had to do with the crazy amount of weight gain. Alongside with the photography challenge, I am hoping to be a bit more active... at least one day a week (have to start with small realistic goals). Either way, I found a few lists on the interwebs, and the first challenge is a self-portrait. YIKES! I had to use my phone to distract myself because it was terrifying! Until next week...
I could liken you to a werewolf the way you left me for dead
But I admit that I provided a full moon
And I could liken you to a shark the way you bit off my head
But then again I was waving around a bleeding, open wound
But you were such a super guy 'till the second you got a whiff of me
We are like a wishing well and a bolt of electricity
But we can still support each other, all we gotta do is avoid each other
Nothing wrong when a song ends in a minor key

New shoes. Fresh pedicure. Absolutely no adherence to this week's theme.
Do you ever feel stuck at your desk and wish you could move a little while you’re working? Suzie Carmack from CenteredBeing Studio provided a super informative and fun event that got PAHO staff moving and taught them to keep active, even at their desk.
Wellness Week Sept. 13 - 21, 2014
Week 24 (v 3.0) - don't know if there's a name for this phenomenon but there seemed to be a shadow preceding this jet plane
Week: 30
Circumference: Just over 41.5"
Belly Button: Still in. By the end of the day it's pretty flat.
Enjoying: Multiple Christmases with the family. (And multiple Christmas dinners, with seconds and no guilt.) Swimming - I get all the kinks worked out and any swelling I do have (not much) is gone.
Feeling: Pretty much up to snuff. Very heavy when I walk out of the pool.
Movement: Still varies although she's usually kicking around when I first wake up and then again around 9pm.
Sleep: Been getting plenty since it's Christmas break. My body is ready to be up around 8am no matter when I go to sleep. Too much sleep in one batch makes my hips and back sore. Daily naps help. Not sure how I'm going to adjust to going back to work 10 hours a day.
Food: Plenty of it with multiple Christmas dinners. Lots of Tropicana OJ with calcium. Milk has been easier for me to drink while pregnant, but 4 servings a day still gets to me. (When I'm not pregnant I can only handle 1 glass of milk every other day).
Anticipating: A new year - I always feel like its a fresh start. Part of me wants to be done being pregnant now - mostly just to know everything is OK. The rest of me is enjoying it. I'm sure two months will go a lot faster than it sounds.
Week 2 - Tim Horton's donuts... my favourite donuts in the world (so far as i know). i managed to just say no on this occasion, but not easily. it's a happy place.
Theme Of The Week - Like watching grass grow
Ok, I am straight-up cheating this week. It has been miserable weather all week. Today, it sleeted, rained, and snowed... and there is 15 mph wind gusts. Plus all the grass is still brown and dead. So here is a picture of the late-great Misha Barkton and I.

I kept asking the lady if she could see what he was, and I think I made her a little mad. GIRLS, we have to wait 18 weeks to see the sex!! Haha
As I mentioned last week, my friend Joe hooked me up with some Cactus V4's for my birthday, and after a loooooong week of work I finally got the chance to play with them a little bit! And I thought that for my first photo with them I should honor Joe by flat out copying his Week 1 photo. ( www.flickr.com/photos/32600254@N05/4294818002/in/set-7215... ) Haha okay, so really, a lot of my intention in reproducing Joe's photograph was to see if I could figure out how to use the V4's and get proper lighting and use the right techniques and so on. I knew that if I could get it close to Joe's, then maybe I was on the right track. It was hard at first because I don't have all the equipment that Joe has, and I had nice cold beer staring me in the face, but after a little bit ingenuity, and will power not to drink during the middle of the day, I was able to get a decent setup. Albeit fairly ghetto, it worked. I am definitely stoked to have the V4's now though, so thanks Joe, this one's for you.
Strobist info: SB-600 at 1/4 power thru a piece of Kleenex. Camera high right. DIY aluminum foil reflector to left of and under subject. Triggered by Cactus v4's.
Week 4's theme was “Butterfly Bonanza.” The Polar Bears and Penguins created and decorated magnetic butterfly memo clips. In Ceramics, the campers enjoyed painting their clay hands and foot prints. All your
children’s projects will be sent home shortly. We are so excited for all the progress the children have made in swimming. The swim reports will be sent home at the end of the summer.
With the weather extremely hot, we changed our schedule to include more indoor activities. This helped both the campers and counselors stay as cool as possible. Of course, we added additional swim periods and encouraged lots of water breaks to help everyone beat the heat.
Both groups have started practicing their “Puttin’ on the Hits” dances. The children are excited about performing in front of the whole camp at the Best of “Puttin’ on the Hits.” The Polar Bears are dancing to “Magic” by B.O.B. and the Penguins are grooving to “Move It” by Baha Men. We will make sure to capture these memories.

Watauga Presbyterian Church, founded as Willow Springs Cumberland Prebyterian Church in the 1850s and reorganized in 1867, then renamed Watauga Presbyterian Church in 1896.
Outside the frontier church stands an historical marker naming the courageous families who founded the church when there was nothing but acres of prairie land. Along side of it sits the old farm bell donated by descents of the Keating family, one of the first handful of pioneers to settle in Watauga. On Sundays, the iron bell can be heard clanging as the current youngsters at the church take turns pulling and tugging on its handle to remind neighbors that the preacher has arrived.
The spirit of this frontier church has continuously served this community for approximately 130 years. Services are still held at 9 a.m. every Sunday.
