When the husk around the coconut is not separated into coco fibre and coco peat, it is cut into pieces, to produce a premium product called coco chips or best known as Husk Chips.

The coco chips (Husk chips) are washed in clean water to achieve a material that can safely be used in growing materials with a low EC level (salt content).

Some benefits in using Husk chips (Coco chips)

• Lasts longer than bark with no degradation (5 plus years)

• Very clean, uniform and no wastage

• Wet coconut husk chips hold water and air like a sponge

• Excellent drainage, high cation exchange capacity (CEC)

• Cuts down fertilizer application up to 30%

Weed control is very important to achieve high yields. Weed control programs should be implemented before planting groundnut and not wait until later in the season. The general recommendation is to maintain the crop weed-free, or nearly weed-free, for six weeks after planting to minimize yield loss due to weeds. Effective weed management can be achieved by integrating several weed control strategies and implementing them throughout the growth phases. Depending on weed occurrence, tillage method, and irrigation capabilities, herbicide programs commonly recommended for groundnut are a burn-down program, pre-emergence, mid-post-emergence, and late post-emergence. Season-long weed control is necessary since weeds present at digging and harvest can disrupt operations, resulting in yield loss. If there are weed escapes to any herbicides, then it is critical to consult with a county extension agent. Proper scouting and maintaining a record of the weed species present in the groundnut field is also necessary for overall weed management.

Boom spraying for larger infestations, for example coastal dunes which are virtually all covered in bitou bush.

Spraying of bitou bush infestations between Miners Beach and Tacking Point Lighthouse at Port Macquarie as part of a long-term program to rid the coast of this unwanted pest.

The aerial control of bitou bush is part of an on-going campaign against this serious coastal weed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) in cooperation with Port Macquarie Hastings Council.

An integrated weed control program includes on-ground spraying, bush regeneration, biological control and aerial spraying from helicopters.

Bitou Bush is a highly competitive weed that smothers native plants and destroys natural habitat and food sources for animals such as the Koala and birds such as the Glossy-black Cockatoo.

Spraying in autumn is effective because the bitou bush is more susceptible and most native plants are less active and unlikely to absorb the herbicide.

As the world looks toward a sustainable organic future, rich in healthy alternatives for people, so does the scientific community seek the necessary answers for ensuring Australia's eco systems can provide us such a vision. It is now well known that the pursuit of profit at any cost and irresponsible actions have caused the dramatic decline and degradation of our natural environments across the globe, and there is a desperate need for change before it is too late.

Whilst some, lost in the past still imagine this to be fallacy, others see the truth and choose to play an active role in reaching for a sustainable future. CGP Media's philosophy and aim has always been about pursuing such goals and aiding in the ethical, cultural and environmental cause with 2008 set to be another big year in conservation production.

Cliff Guy, owner and director of CGP Media is well known for his leadership in the field of adventure and environmental media production, with series such as Australian Adventure, The Camping Show and Gemseeking Australia in ongoing production. To add to the list, CGP Media has recently been engaged by a Stakeholder Group administered by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, to help with the assault and control of one of Australia's most noxious weeds, Lantana camara.

Cliff Guy quote: " This invasive weed has taken over large areas of our natural bushland causing mass devastation, but thanks to the determined efforts of researchers and field workers, and the development of the new 'Splatter Gun', there is hope of returning our suffering eco systems back to a natural state."

The first of the filming for this project has taken place in the thickly forested country of Kyogle, Northern New South Wales, where Cliff and robust cameraman Bryan Duffy took to the wilds to capture the Splatter Gun in action. With weed control being one of Australia's most pressing issues to save the native environments, The Splatter Gun has been developed to deliver a targeted herbicide mix directly to invasive weeds, with little if any overspray or effect on the native vegetation. It is currently being viewed as the most effective weapon ever designed for weed control.

Cliff Guy's choice of cameras for the job were the JVC 101E's.

Cliff quote: "heading into what many see as an alien environment, you need to be well equipped, but travelling light. JVC HDV cameras on Manfrotto Tripods provide the perfect choice for many of our wilderness expeditions, as they offer all the key elements for producing superior quality results, with compact size, strength and lighter weight portability for long days traversing rugged terrain"

Lantana forms an almost impenetrable wall in all manner of countryside, disabling other native plants from growing, so this was never to be an easy expedition for CGP Media, but never the less, stage 1 filming of this production is now complete, thanks again to a dedicated team and the assistance of JVC technology.

CG Organic Coir pots are made of Natural Coco fiber & Natural Rubber (rubberized – to hold pot together) for use in Horticultural Farms , Flower Gardeners, Green Houses, and Nurseries. CGpots can be used with natural flower plants to give indoors an elegant look. This can be promoted as a more retail product which is sold in supermarket chains as well as retail nurseries etc, however, wide usage is currently for Farms and Nurseries.

Some benefits in using Coir pots (Coco pots):

•Pots remain stable above ground for a year and biodegrade in the soil after 2 – 3 months

•Pots add texture to the soil as they degrade

•Can also be added to the compost heap as a valuable source of carbon (brown material)

•Plants grown in these pots benefit from air pruning

Dr. Jason Norsworthy, Division of Agriculture weed scientist, right, and graduate student Michael Houston examine soybeans used as biodetectors in a dicamba volatility study. The project also uses electronic sensors to detect dicamba in the air over a field treated with the herbicide. Norsworthy said the soybeans are more sensitive than the electronic sensors and cupping of the leaves could indicte volatized dicamba even if the sensors don't show any in the air.

I am much less enthusiatic about this years garden, as far as taking pictures of every stage of every plant. However, I took notes last year of what NOT to do in my garden, and improved my design for this year. I am very pleased with what laying down landscapers paper & mulch can do for weed control, and very excited to not have a way over-abundance of tomatoes, cukes and green peppers. The herb boxes didn't quite pan out the way I had hoped, however, and need to be replanted soon or they will die. And I need my basil!!! I have been reading "You Grow Girl" and have all sorts of ideas for next year. Muh-ah-ah-ah *rubbing hands together and twirling mustache*

Horses are infinitely more compatible with on-farm rehabilitation projects than cattle. In the five years we have been replanting deep-rooted native perennial vegetation in shelter belts and shade clumps across our pastures, we have never had to repair a single fence because of our horses – all the fence damage is due to opportunistic cattle figuring out when there is a temporary electric outage, and using it to bulldoze fences and replanted areas! Here, three of our horses are enjoying grazing near the tree belts, viewed through verge replanting with four-year-old Eucalpyts, and newly planted understorey in tree protectors between them. Some local shrubs to the right are also bouncing back due to the weed control we perform on these areas.

SIDE MULCHER WITH OUTER GEARBOX

Suitable for weed control on ditches, road shoulders, meadows and gardens (cutting capacity 6/7 cm of diameter)

Side mulcher model pegasus can boast a high level of versatility. It is suitable for tractors up to 100 HP and can be used for a variety of applications.

The gearbox fitted outside the side trasmission allows an extra side-shift of the cutting body, however keeping an adeguate angle for the cardan shaft.

The double arm (parallelogram type) allows the machine to work from central to an off-set position of 113 cm to the centre-line of the tractor.

The 2009 National Tree Day was held at Rosherville Reserve in Mosman on Sunday 2 August with about 50 people taking part.

The tree planting area was on the southern side of the reserve up from the children’s playground in the vicinity of previous years' National Tree Days. The trees were provided by Mosman Council along with a free BBQ for all participants.

Schools Tree Day was held at the same location on Friday 31 July with approximately 100 students from year 1 and 2 at Middle Harbour Public School and Beauty Point Public School participating.

In total approximately 600 indigenous trees, shrubs and groundcovers were planted over the two tree planting days.

Prior to the planting days the area was subject to weed control using contract bush regenerators and the area was covered in mulch. There will be follow-up weed control and plant watering to help restore the site to natural bushland.
