His Abbott Alkaloidal Company, founded in 1900 nearby in the Ravenswood neighborhood, grew into today's Abbott Laboratories, an internationally-important pharmaceutical company. The Abbott house has a rear addition from 1906, as well as an unusual surviving wood-frame coachhouse. "

Kawazu cherry blooms earliest in Japan, compared to the other types of cherries. Usually it's in bloom about a month, from around early of Feb to early of March, the blooming of this year seems slower than usual. It's also unique for us what the cherry keeps the flower about a month, the others bloom only a week or so.

Today I got my hands on a Panasonic Toughbook 18 and I'm sold... If I had the money than this would be my next notebook and with it's 10.4" screen it's a better successor imho to the 12" ibook/powerbook as an ultimate roadwarrior than the Macbook 13.3"... One thing though, you can buy 4(!) Macbooks for the price of one toughbook... but boy is it nice... (and of course, it would need OpenBSD on there ;-))

“The Hippie”, a granite sculpture by William Koochin, is another International Sculpture Symposium piece from 1967. He appears like a rumpled professor, in a tweed jacket, baggy pants, hands in pockets, thumbs out, peering at us through sunglasses. He even sports a “Love” button on the lapel! He seems to have climbed up onto the pedestal to get a better view of everything happening at the High Park Nature Centre. He seems wise, like a latter day Socrates; one senses that he would approve.
William Koochin was a BC artist who studied at the Vancouver School of Art and the Grande Chaumiere and Manufacture de Sevres in Paris. He taught sculpture at Emily Carr University from 1961-1988. His granite sculpture of Rick Hansen, the Man in Motion, is at the Vancouver General Hospital.

I was out on the street shooting with my little [Sony NEX7](store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreSearch?stor...) it's a fun little camera much less obtrusive than any full on DSLR type of camera. Met some fun peeps on skateboards and a couple of hassle type people too. So I was glad to claim sanctuary in the Igreja da Consolacao Catholic Church partly just to get a little rest from the drama of the street.............. I was shooting a picture of a statue of Mary when the inevitable blazer guy came over........ " No Photo "................ I said to him 'come on why not' .......... But I was speaking to myself as he spoke no English other than " No Photo" .......... I continued my pointless rambling about can I not ask the Priest bla bla......... and pointlessly bleated on until ...... I said the magic words I will be using no flash ............ the angels began to sing the hallelujah chorus suddenly a beam of light shone on me .......... " The Band" I said He said......
