musical musings

It was Monday when they took out your blood and bone marrow. How could you keep this all to yourself when you could save a life? Besides, they found a potential donor and he is wealthy and ready to go on SpaceX again. On Tuesday, they demanded a kidney. You really only need one to function. You may think the quality of your life is important but this other person is a CEO of a major company. On Wednesday, they took out a lung and on Thursday your liver. Finally, they came for your heart on Friday.

You were a murderer, they said, for walking around with these things inside your body when you could save so many others. Your body is a ward of the state and you no longer have control over it.

Did you really think the lack of body autonomy didn't affect you?

For those on TikTok, I saw this video and I was like yes this here...and remember, we've given a ton of power to corporations in this country and profit over people so the lack of body autonomy is dangerous for everyone who isn't very wealthy. We know who will be left and what will be left of us.

These shots are from a short video that I made on "Dawnsview Photography" I have been experimenting with a combination of original stills and video mixed with ai generated images for story telling. For the ai I use the "Wonder" app it is very basic and easy to use and I really like that it does not ask you to pick an artist to emulate. For example I love the work of Loui Jover but would never want to make an image that could remotely be confused with his work. So inspiration is fine but copying is not cool at all to me.

This mural was painted in 2017 by Regina-born artist Emmanuel Jarus. Jarus is based in Toronto but his large-scale work can be seen on walls all over the world. He has developed an international reputation for his ultra realistic figurative murals and has painted at some of the largest mural festivals around the globe. This wall was commissioned by StreetArt Toronto. For me what’s really catching about this work is the scale and the realism. However I also love the subtle drips and soft edges he incorporates in parts of the work to give it that raw feel.

Weston: Then and Now Mural

1901 Weston Road

"Weston: Then and Now" is a three-wall mural series. The mural was designed by artists Jim Bravo, Niel Yee, Rowena Kizito and Bryan Bermudez.

The murals depict the same intersection on Weston Road on each wall at different periods of time. The first wall depicts school children in the 1920’s, the second focusing on depiction of older children in the mid-20th century and the last wall in the series showing young adults of the present day.

Grow Love (Bell box)

Grand Ave. and The Queensway

When you turn the corner from The Queensway onto Grand Ave, you will see a small teal coloured box in between two trees and the sidewalk. The background is made up of round pastel hill shapes in blues, greens, pinks and yellows. As you approach the box, you will notice a dark blue plant with heart shaped leaves. Walking around the box, you will see many different plants: pink plants with multiple leaves, a long fuchsia chain of ivy, daffodils and baby’s breath made with tiny hearts.

The artist Erin McCluskey has been drawing a lot of plants lately and started to notice how many plants have heart shapes in their flowers or in their leaves. This inspired her to create a whole garden of heart shaped plants. Each one is slightly different from the other.

In the spirit of cultivating presence, Erin would like to share a quote with you: “Often we pass beside happiness without seeing it, without looking at it, or even if we have seen and looked at it, without recognizing it.” This quote by Alexandre Dumas is a reminder to take more time to notice and appreciate our surroundings. As you take this walk around the neighbourhood, take some time to appreciate and notice the different shapes in the plants.

This mural is by Jacquie Comrie. She is known as the Queen of Colour is a Toronto-based, award-winning muralist and multi-disciplinary artist. She has done murals around the world using colour and form to create spaces of mental elevation and reset in public spaces. I love the way the colors just explode from the center of this piece.

The Mind of the Universe by Harleen Sekhon: Hello, my name is Harleen Sekhon. I am a self-taught artist, and this is my very first mural which has been a long-time dream of mine to display my artwork in the city of Toronto.

I call this piece “The Mind of the Universe.” Looking at this mural piece gives a lot of different meanings. Some of you might only see a silhouette of a woman, or the earth’s ocean, the moon, the night sky with stars, and outer space with planets and the Milky Way.

The meaning behind this art I see is that we humans are connected with the Earth and the Universe and that too is nature. And what you believe has an effect on your mind and body, allowing them to perceive it as a reality. And the rest I will leave it to you to think about how you feel connected to this art.

for something that is only 30 seconds long, it took me ages but it was a pretty fun project. The video is in response to a challenge that anything can be an album cover. If you get a chance to watch it, let me know what you think. Thanks!

The beauty of birch trees in fall (Mailbox)

335-1 Dalesford Rd.

Welcome to “The beauty of birch trees in fall", the third mailbox mural you’ve seen on this tour painted by Poonam Sharma. A forest of white birch trees dance in front of a turquoise sky. Green, yellow and blue leaves sway in the wind as a bright yellow sun illuminates the landscape.

For this piece, Poonam responded to the homeowner’s request for a landscape painting featuring the majestic birch tree. Poonam’s styles are as diverse as the folks who participated in Neighbourhood Love. Describing the experience of working on these paintings, Poonam explained that ''Learning and experimenting hold a very important place in my art style. My art connects history with the present, people with community and growth with sharing. Through my art I want to show how different communities could be integrated without losing their own identities.''

The forest is strengthened by biodiversity, and our communities are strengthened by the diversity of our neighbours. In a healthy ecosystem, all flourishing is mutual. Pause and listen to the music, while thinking about how you are elevated by the success of others and how your success creates opportunities for others to thrive.

A message with massive impact to all chosen ones and star seeds:

You are the water of water the source of love your light and your being is what awakens those around you.

Through you they can realize what it means to be truly loved without prejudice.

Not everyone will be able to understand you emotionally because you have a different perspective on the world, but be sure that the waves of your love will reach even the smallest corner of the universe because you are and have always been exactly what humanity has wanted for eons.

Yes, you heard right, you are a wish that has come true, which is also the reason why you often have the feeling that you are the fairy godmother for others.

Your fairy godmother is also on her way to you. You may not realize it yet, but love, joy, happiness and many magical miracles are on their way to you.

You have the gift of touching the innermost part of each individual and awakening what lies dormant in each of them, simply through your being.

Be as you are, because that is exactly where your magic lies. You may not always see it, but your light can be seen and felt throughout the entire universe.

You have already experienced what an interstellar encounter with someone from another star race feels like.

Be sure you will get to know a few others. The universe will guide you and you will realize and feel that your intuition is getting stronger.

We know that it is not always easy to understand what we want to give you, but as you already know, it will come to you when the time is right.

Know that we are incredibly grateful for what you are doing because it takes courage, strength and an iron will and you have had all of that since the beginning of time.

The message from Atlantis: The Age of Aquarius has already begun and you are all in the middle of it The love you feel will change, it will be deeper than anything you have ever known. You will realize that you will love more than just one person. Because love is what connects you all, just like the water of water that embraces our Mother Earth.

No matter where you are, what you are doing, take a moment to close your eyes, listen to the music and feel the gratitude flowing through your body.

Gratitude that you woke up this morning, gratitude that you can feel and sense this very moment, because you are all in the here and now. Take the time every day to pause for a moment and to realize what you are grateful for that day, because gratitude is the sister of love.

Raise your vibration now because the ascension process has long since begun.

River of Colours (Mailbox)

698B The Queensway

Welcome to "River of colours". You’re currently standing in front of one of the 7 mini-mural-mailboxes painted during the weekend of October 10 and 11th, 2020. We were excited to include mailboxes in this project as a way to open up the opportunity to allow people to show support without the need to have a large space. This cute piece features a cascade of colours — flowing bands of turquoise, dark green, purple and light green that form an abstract river. Purple and white hearts are floating within the river. A big white heart with a smiling face greets these homeowners everytime they fetch their mail.

Artist Poonam Sharma created this mural in coordination with the mailbox owner. The owner wanted the piece to be abstract and highlighted that she hoped the colour purple would infuse the design. She specially requested the large smiling heart and apartment number be included in the design. Guided by the requests of the owner, Poonam created this uplifting, playful and vibrant mailbox mural that the homeowner is delighted to see daily. On our walk today, you’ll have a chance to see two other mailboxes painted by Poonam. Each design is quite stylistically different and speaks to the deep level of collaboration with the individual property owners.

Poonam hopes that the mural brings a smile to the face of the many folks who pass by this mailbox while strolling on the Queensway. Whether on their way to work, to meet friends, running errands or out for some exercise, this piece creates a moment to pause and reconnect with something that makes you feel happy. Despite its relatively small size, this mural makes a big statement about the presence of love in this community.

Weston Road Flow

34 John Street

This is a multi-panel mural, which references Drake’s Weston Road Flows as the title, that pays homage to Weston as the home of the bicycle, the manufacturing of which was an important industry in Weston.

Nineteen panels stand in single and grouped segments to the right of the Artscape Weston Common building. The panels, whether grouped or single, are spaced evenly and each segment is dedicated to bicycles and their various owners.

The mural, done in spray paint, consists of people set against a backdrop of abstract geometrical shapes. In the mural, each segment is dedicated to a specific scene, whether it be a young girl on a pink tricycle or a couple sharing a bike ride together.

The artist uses the people of the mural to tell a story, depicting them donning time-specific fashion or tying in the bicycle's history in the area. Their posture depicts the mood of the rider or what the bicycle is being used for such as a competitive race or a leisurely ride through a park.

An interesting thing to note is that the artist incorporates different types of bicycles into the design. This can be identified by making note of the handlebars of the bikes.

The mural captures the members of the community of Weston and the diversity of the bikers in the area along with the myriad of uses for the bicycle such as commute, leisure, exercise and sport.

😻 MY BLOG

I was out walking in the park on a cloudy day when I came across this snake. It didn't seem afraid of me so I thought it might be a pet snake somebody let go in the park. After I got home I checked for an ID and found it was a DeKay's Brownsnake, a native snake species which is a new one for my prairie wildlife species set. You just never know what you might see on a walk in the park.....

DeKay's Brownsnakes feed on earthworms, slugs, and other soft-bodied invertebrates. Blunt heads and elongate teeth allow brownsnakes to extract the body of land snails from their shells. They spend most of their time under the cover of leaf litter, grass detritus, and logs. They are most active on the surface from dusk to dawn.

Croft St. at College St.

On both sides of tiny Croft Street are several murals. This particular mural is by Elicser Elliot, a Canadian born artist and a legendary figure in Toronto’s street art community. His work can be found across the city as well as Africa and the Caribbean. His work is known for its organic shapes and layered textures which build to form the figures in his work. His work has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Royal Ontario Museum and he is also responsible for the iconic “Hug Me” tree on Queen Street West at Soho Street. What I love about this piece is the raw emotion and the message reminding us to “protect our energy”.

This is a detailed piece that deconstructs traditional graffiti spray painting techniques and gives a nod to Canada’s iconic and symbolic bird, the Canada goose. Integrating the natural palette of the Sassafras building, the delicate brushwork studies the notable markings of the Canada goose including the black head and neck, white cheeks, and white marking under the chins. The result is a striking arrangement that resembles the flight of the geese’s annual fall migration.

Untitled by Kaya Joan: The mural I painted in Rexdale explores themes of belonging, safety and relationship to land. It depicts two deep brown skinned folks with long wavy black hair sitting behind some green shrubs. They have gold necklaces on, flowers in their hair and butterflies around them. In the middle of them is a bright orange sun.

Co-creation with North Etobicoke residents was essential to this piece. During the summer of 2020, I was able to share space with community members over the course of four virtual workshops. Together, we explored what community means to us in the present, and what we envision for the future, as well as how relationships to place are both formed and deepened. Through various arts activities, workshop participants played with the elements of design to express their feelings and ideas, while creating brainstorms, zines and illustrations. At the end of each workshop, there was space to share what was created. Many of us shared our dreams of having access to safe outdoor space to gather, grow and share food, and strengthen interpersonal relationships. In a time of mass change and shifts in ways of coming together, sharing the hope we have for the future was deeply grounding.

We also explored how the land holds teachings around how to be in good relationship with one another, and how everyone carries responsibilities around taking care of the land they are on. The final design is a collective vision of a future where we can share abundant moments of rest and peace together. This future includes Land Back, honoring and upholding treaty relationships, and collectively dreaming into ways of being in relationships that are not exploitative. I hope community members feel joy when experiencing this mural, as I felt joy painting it alongside the folks who helped me in the process.

73 Grange Ave.

This mural, titled “Art Is Essential” was created in 2020 and is a message of support to frontline workers who have been supporting our city throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a collaboration between Rowell Soller, Flips and Kreecha. This mural was supported by StreetArt Toronto. What I love about this wall is the scale and level of detail. There is something really powerful about large scale murals like this, its something I wish the city had more of. The artists also did an amazing job of blending their individual styles and creating a singular vision.

We are All Animals, 130 Bloor Street West: We arrive at the forecourt of this condominium to find a family of coyotes waiting outside the entrance. A pup, huddled under its mother, looks toward the street and the park beyond. The other coyotes face away from the park, and toward the building’s entrance: do they want to come in?

But these coyotes are not entirely natural. Their triangulated forms bridge the natural and digital worlds. Do you see the large LED screen near the entrance to the building? This part of the work also focuses on the relationship between the natural and the digital. Powered by gaming software, the digital landscape changes subtly with the seasons. This digital representation of the natural environment sits in conversation with the environment of High Park just steps away across the street. Take a seat on the brass bench, maybe pause to consider the co-existence of ecology, environmentalism and the technology we have created. This bench is inscribed with the name of this work “we are all animals”.

The creators, Public Studio, is the collective art practice of filmmaker Elle Flanders and architect Tamira Sawatzky. The artists are concerned with the personal, social, and political implications of landscape. Public Studio’s multidisciplinary practice often engages themes of political dissent, war and militarization, and ecology and urbanization, through the activation of site. Watch the video in the gallery to hear the artists describe the work.

Humber River Recreational Trail at Lawrence Ave W underpass

Renaming the Humber River was made in partnership with Indigenous artist Jason Baerg, UrbanArts. Friends of the PanAm Path & StreetARToronto (StART). Jason worked with UrbanArts’ youth and members of the Indigenous community to create stencils with artwork depicting the language, flora & fauna that holds historical & cultural significance to those who first inhabited the land. The murals were intricately painted on, along the Humber River in the Summer of 2017.

The Entire City Project

25 York Street

As a study of how people navigate through a city and interact with it, Michael Awad’s Entire City Project records the physical infrastructure of Toronto and the urban experience of living in it. Commissioned for the lobby of the Telus building near the Scotiabank Arena, Awad’s image is stretched and expanded to reach life-size, showing a warped panorama of hectic commuters moving in all directions outside of Union Station.

While the distortions may seem odd, they certainly lend a sense of urgency and energy to the piece. Awad has developed his own distinct style for documenting cities through photography as he employs custom-built equipment, custom software, and even techniques adapted from military aerial reconnaissance. In splicing together shots from multiple views, Awad’s work reflects the passage of time and reminds the viewer that photography can only approximate how we experience and remember moments in our lives. The Entire City Project can be grouped within a larger series of panoramic shots that Awad has taken in familiar and foreign places: the neighbourhood of Little Italy in Toronto, La Scala in Milan, the Arsenale in Venice, and the surrounding geography of Art Basel.

Unfinished (Breakdown) by Irving Burman, High Park: These two large blocks of stone were intended to be made into a sculpture but the artist, Irving Burman, suffered a breakdown and was unable to complete the work. He had been invited to participate in the 1967 International Sculpture Symposium here in High Park, one of twelve sculptors who were furnished with materials and supplies, given a place to stay at the Nature Centre just ahead and paid the grand total of $2,000 for their work on the understanding that their work would be gifted to the City at the end of the project.

Burman decided to work in stone. He had already completed a stone sculpture in Montreal's Mount Royal Park in a similar event in 1964, the first of its kind in North America, and it was perhaps because of his involvement in that event that he was selected as a finalist for this one. But the task was too much, after a few chiselled marks he gave up, and abandoned the project. His two stones were placed on a pedestal by the City, inviting us to speculate on what might have been.

In the end, his work stands as a monument to possibility, and a statement that an artist's journey is often one of trial and error.

Toronto-born Irving Burman was a painter and designer. In 1958 he began working as a sculptor. Burman was concerned with the horrible effects of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and his sculpture, Road Back, created in 1962, is formed of six statues arranged in a semi-circle, expressing a critical reflection on war.

With kind regards your Universe

Wildflowers (Bell Box)

Inverleigh Dr. and The Queensway

This organic mural transforms a plain rectangular Bell box into a natural scene complete with blooming wildflowers. A soft turquoise meets teal gradient acts as the backdrop for large dark green, heart-shaped leaves. Thin bright yellow grasses and pale blue flowers are layered on top in a very loose, drawing-like style. Painted in the fall, these flowers demonstrate the act of providing seeds and pollen to insects and birds before winter.

Stacey Kinder, the artist who painted this Bell Box, is an artist, ecologist and conservationist from Toronto with a background in Fine Arts and Ecosystem Management. She hopes to share her passion through her artwork and highlight the natural wildlife in Canadian neighbourhoods.

This mural was inspired by the plants that were growing around the box itself. Stacey’s aim was to celebrate the beings that live in the South Etobicoke neighbourhood and their unique individuality. As different as they are, each plant thrives here and co-exists in the same ecosystem - much like us, the plants and animals are connected and dependent on one another. If one component of an ecosystem is missing, the entire network is at risk of poor health and collapse. This really brings home the idea of neighbourhood love.

Pixel Cube

25 York Street

Pixel Cube is a 12 x 15 x 18-foot cube made up of 30,000 individually controllable colour LED's suspended in the foyer of 25 York Street. The pixels create a three-dimensional image surface that can update at full video speed. Several different approaches are used to present abstract and real-world imagery on and in the cube. The cube can present material prepared in advance, but it can also be live, and interactive. The cube is a real three-dimensional display surface. By selectively lighting the pixels, dynamic light sculptures can be created and interacted with.

Stone Distillery

28 Distillery Lane

The largest and oldest building in the Distillery District is David Roberts Sr.’s distinctive Stone Distillery that opened in early 1861. Built of limestone brought from Kingston by schooners, the Stone Distillery remained the only building of limestone built by Gooderham & Worts, although many other red-brick buildings designed by Roberts and his son, David Roberts Jr., sit on limestone bases that help unify the site visually.

Other distinctive features were its location on the edge of Toronto Bay, the proximity of railway tracks running along what is now Stone House Walk, and its tie plates, corbels, and double-timber-beam construction. The exterior of the building looked remarkably similar to today’s except for the replacement of the lake by a parking lot.

Bloor Parkette

Bloor St and Spadina Ave

This parkette aims to recognize commonality in a diverse neighbourhood, and there’s more to explore here than you’ll see at first glance. Let’s hear more about it from Susan Schelle, one of the artists responsible for it’s design. The clip you’re about to hear is a part of the Artbuzz project produced by David Tarnow.

My name is Susan Schelle. I’m part of a pair of artists; the other artist is Mark Gomes, who collaborated and designed the park that you’re looking at. The plaza design with its large checkerboard pattern is based on the game board. And the dominos are part of the game, which are the elements that are sitting on the ground that are in play.

I think the game board was decided on because a game board or a game of dominos is universal. It’s not restricted to one particular ethnic group. And the area of Spadina and Bloor is very diverse in its audience. Not only does it have people who are part of U of T, University of Toronto, but you also have Portugese, Italian, Chinese, all within that area. And we wanted to recognize something that had a commonality which would be a game of dominos.

The rest of the park when you look at the area that contains actually the fans from the streetcars - because the streetcars go underneath this particular park - we decided to turn the grate system into a pond. And we have these scattered water-jet cut aluminum leaves scattered over the surface much like they would be if you saw a pond. And the leaves themselves are replicated on the back of the dominos so there is a narrative between the leaves that are on top the grate that represent the pond and the leaves that are on the back of the dominos. And these leaves are the leaves that would be along the lakeshore of Lake Ontario when we had Carolinian forests.

Mobius Curve by Michael Clay.

Michael Clay was an artist in residence in 1982 when he carved the one-sided geometric shape defined by German Mathematician August Mobius in 1858. The entire sculpture was carved from a 15-ton block of limestone.

Michael Clay also worked with his mentor E. B. Cox at the Guild Inn. In 1979 they used air-powered tools to carve the Grizzly Bear that can also be found in the gardens around the Main Walk. Although the sculpture is made of white limestone, it depicts a brown bear.

Musidora - the oldest piece on site that was sculpted in 1875 - is also close by. Sculpted by Marshall Wood it was inspired by a maiden from a Greek poem by Ovid. You can also find Marshall Wood’s marble sculptures worldwide - he carved the statue of Queen Victoria in Ottawa’s Parliamentary Library.

Croft St. at College St.

Lawrence Underpass Mural

Lawrence Ave underpass (at Weston GO/UP Express Station)

Underneath the railway is a colourful mural on both sides that incorporates flora, fauna and a modern touch with the use of graffiti font.

Artists Alex Bacon (Alexander Lazich) and Que Rockford (Quentin Rockford) have incorporated local flowers and wildlife against an abstract background. The artists use spray paint to give the animals and flowers a soft feel which contrasts with the hard lines and sharp edges of the graffiti-style writing.

Quentin is Anishinaabe and Odawa: the artist’s indigenous background influences his style of painting and ultimately the mural itself. Quentin fashions the images of animals in the style of native art.

The artists have incorporated natural features of the Humber River and Weston, such as great blue herons, saw-whet owl, blue jays, salmon and local flora such as the red trillium.

The mural is a celebration of Rockford’s family and heritage. If you look closely you will see an image of the artist’s great-great grandmother incorporated into the mural’s vibrancy.

Mother Nature by Natalie Very B: This painting is a direct product of a beautiful collaboration between myself and the participants of the Art Etobicoke mural workshops in the summer of 2020. I was honoured to be the lead of a 4 workshop series where I met with the same group of participants on a weekly basis to make artwork and brainstorm creative ideas.

While we had to meet online and missed the in-person interactions due to the onset of the pandemic, we made it work. Moreover, each participant painted their very own canvas inspired by the values that emerged in the workshop. At the end of the series, I offered potential layouts for feedback from the group, who, in this context, represented the community at large.

In the end, we came up with the current mural design that you can see in front of you.

It was a humbling experience to see the participants thrive in their own unique creativity. I was so inspired by the personal stories of resilience that the community members brought along with them, and the way that they connected with the natural environment.

Mother Nature is understanding, inclusive, strong, and holds knowledge that is inaccessible to humans. She inspires our actions and guides us towards good decisions, reminding us of humility and respect for all living creatures. Mother Nature lives among us, but also in the darkness of the ever-expanding, unseen universe. She resides in the stars and walks the earth with gratitude. She is the ultimate role model by offering us the values of gentleness, perseverance, and kindness.

I hope that whoever passes by my mural can feel the power of a resilient community of creative human beings.

Terreno De Piel (Skin Terrain)

16 York Street

Terreno De Piel, or Skin Terrain, is a bold and insightful commission by Cadillac Fairview, created by Donna Huanca. Huanca’s practice draws particular attention to the skin as the complex interface through which we experience the world around us. Her ‘skin’ paintings – layered on magnified cross-sections of her models’ painted figures photographed during performance – refer directly to the people.

Three Disks Sculpture by Menashe Kadishman, High Park: Three yellow disks, about two meters in diameter, connected at a forty-five degree angle, rise out of the ground like the rising sun. This is Three Disks by Menashe Kadishman, an Israeli sculptor who was part of the 1967 International Sculpture Symposium.

Menashe seems to capture the sun in a timelapse as it rises as if out of the earth. In shape and style it is identical to his much larger later work, Hitromemut (or Uprise) in Habima Square, Tel Aviv, completed seven years later. At a distance it is striking, drawing us into the space, its bright metal and clear lines in sharp contrast to the almost rural setting of the Nature Centre with its greenery and wooden fences. There is a tension here, the tilted disks seem to want to fall over. Its cartoonish quality brings a jolt of surprise and joy to the park and the surrounding children's adventure playground.

Menashe Kadishman studied sculpture in the St. Martin School of Art. During the 13 years that he spent in London he refined his Minimalist Conceptual style, a style which focussed on simple geometric forms. He was one of Israel’s most well-known artists and represented the country at the 1978 Venice Biennale.

Chief Lady Bird is an award-winning Toronto-based artist from Rama First Nation and Moosedeer Point First Nation descent. Her work focuses on foregrounding the experiences of indigenous Women. Aside from her mural work, she is also a well known digital illustrator, children’s book illustrator, community activist and educator. I love the subtle detail of the galaxy in the hair and the way she seamlessly blends the environment and the human form.

Rebirth

Since ancient times, humans have been dreamers, storytellers and innovators. Civilizations have come and gone, and all the while Nature has been a constant. Animals, plants, oceans and skies have thrived: co-existing and interconnected. As bears are to fish, fish are to plankton, plankton is to water, water is to life, we are all connected.

As the wild and wise elephants, who use infrasound and seismic communication over long distances, who practice ritual and mourn their loved ones when they have passed, we shall remember this journey and work together for a better tomorrow.

As the skies celebrate the flight of birds, we shall respect our air.

And with the dignity of a tiger, we shall protect these lands, and have the courage to dream and innovate for a healthier and thriving world. We shall tell the story of Mother Earth’s beauty and how we changed our ways to help her flourish once more.

Four Strong Winds Circle

16 York Street

Artist Richard Long describes this bold and insightful commission for Cadillac Fairview, called Four Strong Winds, as follows: “It’s an evocative and beautiful song sung by Neil Young, a great artist (and Canadian). It reminds me of the time hitching across the Prairies in 1974, going through places like Medicine Hat and Saskatoon. I did my walk in The High Plains in Saskatchewan.”
