Ermine moth larvae. The webs are all over the tree with dozens of larvae in each web. The larvae are stripping the tree of its leaves but apparently this causes no long term damage to the tree. This is an adult moth found in the same place last year although last year the webs seemed to be more on the trunk and branches than amongst the leaves. www.flickr.com/photos/photospool/5874534816/
Charlotte has been hard at work right outside the garage and blackberry grove -- this web is about five feet tall and just as wide. It stretches from the grilling overhang all the way to the dogwood tree... but is missing whatever text Charlotte was planning to put there. She could fit a novel in there.
A spider web in a field of purple loosestrife definitely has designs on the flight patterns of other insects that will be flying through this area.

The event will be kicked off by the book launch of Andrey Soldatov and Irina Borogan´s ´The Red Web´. Please join us for a presentation of their findings and a discussion of their implications by a panel of experts.

I noticed raindrops on a small spider web in my front yard and took a few shots of it, this one from underneath the web looking up to the dimming light. It was already pretty monochromatic, but I converted it to B&W for a little extra punch.

Heavy fog advisory this morning, so grabbed the camera and headed to the lake. Found dozens of spider webs heavy with moisture from the fog. If you have a second, take a look at the photostream for more.
