The hard rock sandstone cliffs of Hocking Hills (Ohio) show the picturesque effects of longtime erosion due to weathering.
The type of weather you are sure to find when you go to Antarctica. There was plenty of snow on the hills of Brown Bluff and the penguins were having a hard time building their nests. Cold and wet.
According to the theory or lore, mainly black "woolly bear" worms predict a harsher winter. A mostly brown worm signifies a milder winter. If brown at the head with more black near the tail, it means a winter that starts mild and ends harshly. After having a good look at this fuzzy woolly worm while was sleeping, I noted that he/she had a big brown band on the middle. So according with this weather worm, we're going to have a moderate winter in Pennsylvania. This worm is the caterpillar of the Isabella tiger moth and good that it wasn't a bear that I found! 😊

Back to Death Valley in the sand and heat. HSS! Actually I didn't slide this much, this landscape is so different than any around, the sand storm made it even more eerie... This old tree with it's weathered wood was calling to us for a photo - HSS!

A storm brews up. I love weather events. They afford ready perspective of our smallness in the face of nature's immense energies.
Wildlife management areas offer fine opportunities for viewing the natural world - and the skies. Unfortunately much of the management focuses on assuring plenty of game for hunters, rather than balanced, self-sustaining ecosystems. Better than nothing, but not good enough.
You can bet that when our Magnolia tree is full of blossoms, lousy weather is ahead. These lovely white flowers had just been pounded by hail a few minutes before I took this shot.

The day we visited Milford Sound the weather was so wild and there had been record rains for much of the South Island.
The best time to visit MS is after heavy rain as the mountains literally weep with waterfalls.
After a few days of fine weather with moon and sun halos no weather front has been anywhere near the uk, until today, this fantastic sun halo appeared late afternoon along with an approaching weather front not far behind it

Im sure like most people at present, a tide of anxiety hangs over us all.
I've tried blanking it out, hiding behind jokey comments but deep down I have so much uncertainty.
Much of this is wrapped around the fact that tomorrow my hubby returns to work. As many others, he's frontline contact with the public, so I can only hope and pray he is ok.
Today I found myself thanking the till staff at our local supermarket, for actually being there. Without many of these people, where would we be.
Hopefully you all keep yourselves safe, be kind to others and in time we will all weather the storm :)

These trees are on Milner Lane adjacent to the Hetchell Wood Nature Reserve, West Yorkshire. The reserve lies between the villages of Wothersome, East Rigton and Scarcroft
Hetchell Wood is a mix of woodland, species rich grassland and wet flushes, Hetchell Wood provides a tranquil retreat on the edge of the conurbation of Leeds. The variety of habitats provide refuge for the rare species which were once widespread in the local landscape.
