I’ve wanted to photograph the feral chickens in a vacant lot near my home for a long time. I decided to organize a Chicken Art theme today at We’re Here! and hope for the best.
It’s still raining, so I consulted the hourly weather app to pick the most optimistic time, packed up my weather resistant Pentax camera, and set out with my fingers crossed. Of course, when I arrived it was too wet out and the chickens, being smarter than I am, were somewhere else warm and dry.
I decided to go do my grocery shopping while I already had the car out, and on my way home I detoured to that little field again, with the slimmest of hopes. There they were! And the sun came out!
Some days the Chicken Gods smile.
Typically we do not see blue jays over the summer. This year was no exception. Glad you are back!!

These brightly coloured lilies had just been watered after a dry spell. I think they were very happy!

Taken this evening during my daily walk. I am grateful to Rochester Cathedral for lighting the roof in commemoration of those we lost in the many wars.

I’m a little late, but I’m adding this tomato family picked fresh from my garden to the Looking Close... on Friday pool. :) I hope that’s okay. Oh, and is there any benefit to putting garden tomatoes on the window sill to ripen? It’s something that I do, but never thought about really...

Sometimes I struggle with close up shots, it's the realism I desire to showcase and at times, that falls flat. This skin by the Skinnery made this shot so easy!

Those famous words, uttered by Dr. Strange in Marvel's Avengers Infinity War, have now become true for the big blue western railroad. Today, the railroad officially filed its intent to terminate its lease with the Surface Transportation Board. We are now down to the final months of the railroad. Need to make it a great final stand.
We went out looking for the Milky Way, and the PhotoPills app on my phone told me it was right where that cloud was in the lower center of the photo -- and there the cloud stayed all evening, not budging the entire breezeless time were were at the Pine Tree Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I tried to make the best of it by breaking out my old, cheap Rokinon 8mm, f/3.5 fisheye and shooting with it. Not great photos, but good fun. ©2021 John M. Hudson | jmhudson1.com

Old Dutch houses at the museumpark Archeon. These are replicas from houses built in the early fourteenth century. (Edam and Utrecht, The Netherlands.)
This photo was taken today. Nobody was there... except for some chickens and me.
Het is nu rustig in Gravendam. Dit is een typisch Hollands dorpje zoals deze te zien moet zijn geweest in de late Middeleeuwen rond 1350 na chr. De kleine houten huisjes zijn nagebouwd en komen uit Amsterdam, Utrecht, Edam, Delft, Rotterdam en Antwerpen.

We had an absolutely incredible sunset yesterday. All through the day we had some incredible cloud formations and I was hoping they would stick around for sunset. They obviously did.
Also, I ordered a new Nikon D7000. It will arrive today, so this may be the last shot I ever take with my old D80. It's been a great camera, but it's time for an upgrade...and I've already got a buyer for it. I can't wait to get my D7000 in my hands and begin putting it through it's paces.
UPDATE: I now have my new D7000 in my hands. The battery isn't even charged yet, but I can already tell how awesome it is. :-)
We finally been having some springtime temps this week which has allowed for some of those early spring flowers to bloom. So of course one needs to start with a Snowdrop. The only snow I want to see at the moment. (lol)
