A Beautiful Winter Outing Along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon.
Enjoyed a beautiful winter day along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway between the towns of Richland and Halfway, with beautiful blue skies and amazing views of the snow capped Wallowa Mountains along the way.
Got to spend some time in Halfway enjoying the giant Valentines heart decorations and then exploring the scenery along the byway back to Baker City. Spend a nice afternoon break at Baker County's Hewitt Holcomb Park watching wildlife and as a special treat got to watch one of the resident Great Blue Herons doing some ice fishing
The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, intersecting with Interstate 84 at Baker City and La Grande. During the fall the byway is an ideal route for exploring the regions fall foliage and autumn splendor with some great wildlife viewing opportunities along the way.
The byway is a popular destination for group tours and offers visitors a chance to experience small town Americana in small towns like Halfway, as they explore the rugged and spectacular Northeast Oregon landscape along the way.
Hwy 86 between Baker City and the Hells Canyon Dam at the bottom of the canyon is open year round providing visitors access to the deepest river gorge in North America.

A beautiful Spring Day Along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway
Spent a beautiful spring day along the Hells Canyon Byway with spectacular views of the Snowcapped Wallowa Mountains and lush green valleys along the way to Hells Canyon. Spring is a beautiful time to visit the byway. The wildflowers are blooming and we got to stop by Eagle Creek Orchards where everything is in bloom.

After taking these shots I spied a line of yellow double- deckers in the depot opposite this stop. They're ready to roll!

Here is a wayfinding sign along IL 5 entering Rock Island, similar to those in Davenport, Bettendorf, and Moline. IL 5 follows Blackhawk Road, named after the Sauk Chief Black Hawk, to its west end at US 67.
Here is an example of a blue wayfinding sign in Knoxville. This is where westbound Business IA 92 (the "BUSINESS" banner is missing from the sign assembly in the background) briefly turns north.
