Waterloo Station in London. Thankfully not so busy when I was waiting for train home. You cannot move here for people during rush hours.
West Country 34093 Saunton waits in Waterloo Station on Friday July 7, 1967, two days before the end of steam on the Southern. I travelled on the train it took out, the 17.23 Waterloo - Bournemouth as far as Southampton. Form there I travelled back to Waterloo on the 17.30 from Weymouth, arriving in Waterloo over nine minutes early, pulled by 34013 Okehampton.
End of Southern Steam.
An unkempt and travel weary Bulleid Light Pacific No. 34090 awaits departure time with a Bournemouth train on Sunday 21st May 1967.
The loco is missing its smokebox numberplate and names but still receives the avid attention of Dad and his two young boys on the adjacent platform.

Waterloo Tower has been restored a few times throughout its lifetime. It was initially restored in 1815, although I believe this restoration was largely a rebuild. This work didn't last long as the tower was again restored in 1862. It's now in a ruinous condition.
When I first visited the tower last year, I remember reading that it was either painted black or white as its prominence on the hills made it a good marker for ships approaching Tayport and Dundee. The tower is now completely surrounded by tall trees and as a result, it's difficult to spot it even when you're standing right next to it.
If you have a spare five minutes, we recorded a video here last June that might better demonstrate the location and state the tower is in.

A wonderful looking John Deere from 1919.
These were the first tractors built by John Deere after they bought the 'Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company'. Based in Waterloo Iowa it was formed by inventor John Froelich. In 1892 he developed the first stable gasoline/petrol-powered tractor with forward and reverse gears. He enjoyed success and the pictured 'N' type introduced in 1919 was very successful.
In 1918 Deere & Company, took over 'Waterloo Boy' tractors.
Waterloo Crescent consists of a trio of late-Regency buildings dating from 1834-8. Facing the harbour, they did well to survive war-time bombing.
