Museum of Water and Steam, London.

Visited on 13th February 2016. Interesting museum which will appeal to older/mature persons and possibly the very young (as there are 'things' for them to play with. Can't see teenagers and young adults visiting without children.

If you like old steam engines then you will like this muesum.

We have a very nice wooded area behind our house. When you walk about 50 feet back, you feel like you are in a forest - until you see this.

Just a candle on the washing machine.

This Saturday we're leaving for Italy on another one of those weird business trips, so we got to get our fur all shiny and clean!!

Dad says his business partner is on the verge of a nervous breakdown with him leaving for three days right before the Expo opens. His partner doesn't know that we added one more day to visit Venice (Dad made up a story about how there were no flights and such).

We plan to send his poor unsupecting partner an MMS on Sunday from one of those gondolas, hehe! (Hey, we pay for the trip, so we get to do it our way! :o)

The worst bit of coming back from a trip

Since we don't have a washer & dryer I got portable ones for Fiona's stuff....and am I glad I did! I love this washer.

I had to buy a new washing machine because my old one leaked water all over the floor. Used this new one for the first time today. It works!

Almost nothing works in my current flat. It's a lovely place, but you need about a month to learn how to hack everything into working mode.

just so no one thinks i am hurting animals he climbed in himself!! hes a beautiful cat he is.

Pluto obviously thinks he needs a wash

We were lucky enough to get a free new washing machine, and Tiga watched it for the first hour it was here, just to make sure it didn't misbehave!

From my collection. Previous converstation about Beatty in New Zealand here:

Me - Not sure who made these, but The Dominion Motors sold and serviced them in the 50s. Neeco made them later.

Darian Zam - Beatty Bros appliances were first imported from Canada, then the company branched out to London (England not Ontario). The first manufactory opened Wellington 1929 with washing machines, branching out to Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Hastings, Palmerston North, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill. They expanded the range to ironers, vacuums, polishers, waxers, blowers. It was still around into the 1960s at least. I don't know about Neeco, I have never encountered any information on that. My knowledge is that it was acquired by Cable Price Downer, and manufactured under their Speedway division. Speedway had it's origin with an early Dunedin chemist Peter Dutton whose son turned the business into an Auckland-based manufacturing chemist which made fairly standard range for that genre of manufacturer. They made a wide range of medical and household products including fruit drinks and also bulk manufactured for clients like McKenzies stores. Some of the products were ‘Speedway’ brand. He was a bit of an inventor and visionary. He segued into appliance manufacture with hot water cylinders in the 1930s, and the company split up into two different divisions as the appliances became successful. When he died the Speedway appliance division was sold to Shaw Products and the manufacturing chemists side was folded as there was no succession. Then from Shaw to CPD Group. I think Shaw made them under license and so quite feasible this was the arrangement with Neeco to widely distribute the product.

Me - Neeco bought the Beatty washing machine factory at Kaiwharawhara in July 1966 from Dominion Motors. Neeco owned Neeco Wholesalers Ltd and Speedway products at the time. Cable Price Downer bought Neeco in 1967 and sold them to Lasercorp in August 1987. Phew!

Washing machines are remarkably simple on the inside.

Ah yes, the essential task of ensuring you have enough clean stuff to take on holiday with you. This is of course a boring yet essential task, one made much easier by modern technology. So, today I waved goodbye to my desk, in part because I have to move did to a change in line manager, and skipped home.
