Seaham war memorial, North Terrace, Seaham, County Durham, North East England. . . Tommy 1101. A sculpture by Ray Lonsdale.. .
A war-weary Tommy sits thoughtfully, head bowed, rifle in hand, as he reflects upon the sheer horror of World War One during the first minute after peace was declared in 1918.
This imposing metal sculpture, entitled 1101, owing to the fact the armistice went into effect at 11am on November 11, 1918, stands 9ft 5ins tall and weighs 1.2 tonnes.
Built out of special corteen steel, it has been installed on Seaham seafront in Country Durham to mark the centenary of the start of the Great War and will remain in place for three months.
Created by local artist Ray Lonsdale, the sculpture is also intended to represent Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which many of the returning soldiers endured. Mr Lonsdale got his idea for the piece after hearing a story about a soldier from nearby Murton who won a war medal.

War Planes are a small collection of ex-military aircraft, laying in a seldom-used corner of a French airfield. There is an interesting collection; a submarine "Hunter-Killer" (Lockheed Neptune SP-2H), paratroop transporter (Nord Noratlas N.2501) and a two-seat jet trainer (Fouga CM-170 Magister R).
MADRAS WAR CEMETERY was created to receive Second World War graves from many civil and cantonment cemeteries in the south and east of India where their permanent maintenance could not be assured. The cemetery contains 856 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. The MADRAS 1914-1918 MEMORIAL is situated at the rear of the cemetery. It bears the names of more than 1,000 servicemen who died during the First World War.It is located in Nandambakkam, Chennai. It is currently maintained by the CWGC in partnership with Government of India

So many men were slaughtered in Civil War battles that their remains are still being found on battlefields over a century and a half later. Even when battlefields are not now recognizable as such. (I have mentioned previously that the house I grew up in sits atop what was a Union battery, and its bones, during the battle of Corinth. That's Mississippi, not Greece, though the latter saw its carnage as well. Almost exactly two millennia previously.)
Tourists at Gettysburg recently discovered a young soldier, after heavy rains had washed back the little bit of earth then covering his shallow grave. The remains were examined by the Smithsonian, and found to belong to a man about 5 foot 8 inches tall, in his early 20s, who had been shot in the back of the head.
These tragically, foolishly dead are with us, "the devil's own planting... a harvest of death", wrote a superintendent at one battlefield, and they sometimes make us aware.
The devil would have it so.

"Gods. It's in the middle of the War and I got the most important job. Be a silly guard and protect the Book that will end the war. I just had two of the enemy soldiers trying to steal it. I hope the war doesn't turn into an apocalypse."

I made this 3 weeks ago and didn't post it :P
In the centre of a mainly unkempt Ford Park Cemetery Plymouth lie graves of some of the Royal Naval men and boys who lost their lives in the World War 1 conflict. This oasis is beautifully presented and kept. It is a credit to those who look after and maintain it in memory of those who served and perished.

Another small scene of another amazing period of history. I believe however, I need to return to the War in Gaul when I get some time. ;)
Been working steadily on a big MOC for our book. I think I'll end up posting some WIPs soon!
Also, today, the 14th, is my birthday! I'm turning 20 so I no longer have any form of excuse at being a TFOL. ;)

The Bulawayo War Memorial was erected after the First World War although I can find few other construction details; I have seen photographs of it online from 1930. After Zimbabwean independence in 1980 and the later decline of the country’s white population, many war memorials were torn down, perhaps rather less so in Matabeleland, but even here this memorial was apparently strewn with refuse and used both by homeless people to sleep in, and as a midden and latrine.
In the last few years it has been beautifully restored with the help of Bulawayo City Council and is a popular, pleasant, and shady place for local shop and office workers to take a break. It stands on Joshua Nkomo Avenue, formerly Main Street, in the heart of the city.

I think this is supposed to be either War Machine or some sort of prototype of him.. I haven't seen this design before. If you have, help me out!
War! As the galaxy reels form the tremendous loss of Jedi warriors on the planet Geonosis, thousands of clone soldiers are deployed on the Republic front to stop the Separatist advance.
Can you spot the mistake? Enjoy :)
I'm sorry but today I cannot continue posting as if nothing is happening. Putin's war in Ukraine is getting very bloody with civilians being targeted. Meanwhile in my own country people in two states are enduring the worst floods in living memory two years after the terrible bushfires. And after enduring the awful frustration of a pandemic. Are we cursed?
And let us spare a thought for the forgotten refugees from the Taliban in Afghanistan. Human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia (they still have public beheadings of infidel - many of them women - in Riyadh every Friday), but Western corporations continue to do business. And where do we start with China's human rights abuses: Tibet, the genocide of the Uyghurs and like in Putin's Russia the "disappearing" of any political opposition.
We weep for the world. It is time for 7 billion people to stand up and say, "No more!" Make these corrupt political leaders quake in their boots. Remember the inspiring revolution against that evil tyrant Nicolae Ceaușescu in Romania in 1989 - the year Eastern Europe was freed from the yoke of Communism. We must not allow it to return. It is time for PEOPLE POWER.
Yesterday I posted this image on my other Flickr page, and I have decided to let people see it here too.
This is a genuine Russian cannon from the Crimean War (1853-1856). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_War
Today Mr Putin is deploying far deadlier weapons against Ukrainian civilians. Illegal weapons such as Thermobaric and Cluster bombs. All in the name of an illegal war to steal another country. Now he threatens nuclear war!
Mr Putin if you want to save the world from disaster, STOP THIS WAR! Muzzle your weapons like this cannon from the Tsarist era.
***BOYCOTT THIS GROUP!**********
I have been banned from a little group called "Worldwide Photography" for posting my opposition to Putin's War in Ukraine. This was just a summary decision announced in this thread.

According to this Admin speaking out against an unjust war is "hate speech". This Admin Putin-lover has even said he will report us to Flickr. If this idiot (Stalin called Western fellow travellers "useful idiots") can't distinguish between a just and unjust cause it shows how deeply flawed and ready for total collapse our Western civilization is. I strongly suggest you boycott this group.
When you check out the Admin's own page you will see it is full of pro-Russian images. www.flickr.com/photos/-eu
I've blocked him as well.

On the 15th Day of Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar Boba Fett has a gift for Leia.
To celebrate the old times he gives her a remote controllable scale replica of the Tantive IV.
You may ask why the two of them seem intimate. Well, apparently there is a niche of fan fiction involving the two characters (you never stop to learn new things) and so I had the idea of this image.
After all if we consider how things went maybe Leia should have chosen the Bounty Hunter over the Smuggler lol.
Now that I think about it, that would mean no Kylo! Yes! I love that alternate timeline lol :)

Front fighter, In Norway, the term is primarily used by Norwegians during the Second World War who engaged in German war service in the Waffen-SS from January 1941 and fought on the German side against the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front.
The first to go out joined the 5th SS-Panzer Division "Wiking" and joined the attack on the Soviet Union in 1941. Later, several departments were placed on the eastern front, including at Leningrad, in Finland and during the withdrawal at Narva front. They joined the entire German retreat from Leningrad / Narva to Kurland (Western Latvia) through Poland and until the collapse of Berlin in May 1945.
At the final matches in Berlin it is assumed that approx. 150 Norwegian front fighters participated. A total of 15,500 Norwegians tried to enlist during the occupation. About 5,000 Norwegians passed through the eye of the needle as front fighters. One assumes that 836 was killed; Of these, 308 have the status of missing.
Most killed and missing were in the then Soviet Union, some in Finland and Germany. Four were killed in actions in the fall of 1944, when German troops took massive measures to bring down the Warsaw uprising.
In addition, between 400 and 500 women served in the German Red Cross as so-called front sisters.
Cold War Nuclear Attack Monitoring Bunker in the hills above Holywood, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. Manned by the Royal Observer Corps, who were expected to spend three weeks underground during a Nuclear Exchange. These bunkers are located all over the UK, in various states of decay and can be explored by the adventurous. A few have been restored. Eerie relics of a time when Nuclear War seemed a very real possibility.
