Māori culture (Māoritanga) is the customs, cultural practices, and beliefs of the indigenous Māori people of New Zealand. It originated from, and is still part of, Eastern Polynesian culture. Māori culture also forms a distinctive part of New Zealand culture and, due to a large diaspora and the incorporation of Māori motifs into popular culture, is found throughout the world. Within Māoridom, and to a lesser extent throughout New Zealand as a whole, the word Māoritanga is often used as an approximate synonym for Māori culture, the Māori-language suffix -tanga being roughly equivalent to the qualitative noun-ending -ness in English. Māoritanga has also been translated as "[a] Māori way of life."
There have been four distinct but overlapping cultural eras—before Māori culture had differentiated itself from other Polynesian cultures (Archaic period), before widespread European contact (Classical period), the 1800s in which Māori began interacting with European visitors and settlers, and the modern era since the beginning of the 20th century. Māoritanga in the modern era has been shaped by increasing urbanisation, closer contact with New Zealanders of European descent (or Pākehā) and revival of traditional practices.
Traditional Māori arts make up a large section of New Zealand art and include whakairo (carving), raranga (weaving), kapa haka (group performance), whaikōrero (oratory), and tā moko (tattoo). The patterns and characters represented record the beliefs and genealogies (Whakapapa) of Māori. Practitioners often follow the techniques of their ancestors, but today Māoritanga also includes contemporary arts such as film, television, poetry and theatre. The Māori language is known as te reo Māori, shortened to te reo (literally, "the language"). At the beginning of the twentieth century, it looked like te reo Māori as well as other aspects of Māori life might disappear. In the 1980s, however, government-sponsored schools (Kura Kaupapa Māori) taught te reo, educating those of European descent as well as Māori. (Wikipedia)
Save the children & you save our future & theirs!
Children accept the conditions they are born into, and, to a degree, I was getting used to the bombings, fires, and death around me. I remember that I thought those things were normal. It is grown-ups who worry about things, and this ... this was total panic! I could taste the fear, and I could see that my mother was frightened, which I had never seen before, and this made me even more frightened.”

Save Ukraine and other war torn countries from a fate woth than death... Children thinking all this is normal.
With hand on hip and confident bearing, this woman is self-assured and elegant. She was probably from the Philadelphia area, where the artist Laura Wheeler Waring lived and worked.Like Waring's other portraits of urbane and sophisticated or dignified working class African Americans, this painting countered the many racial stereotypes that were prevalent at the time.Waring's work with its strong color palette and energetic brushwork, flourished during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s,a period of great African American Artista m artistic and cultural production-Brooklyn Museum

This is my latest creation: The citadel from Star Wars The Clone Wars.
After months of work it's finally finished and I'm very happy to show it to you today. I really hope you like it and I'd be happy to read your comments. Favs appreciated (as always;D).
Some background info (from jedipedia):
The Citadel, also known as Citadel Station, was a prison constructed on the planet Lola Sayu by the Galactic Republic to hold rogue Jedi. Early in the Clone Wars, it was captured by the Confederacy of Independent Systems and Osi Sobeck became its warden.
Under Separatist control, the Citadel became known as the Confederacy's most isolated holding facility that held their high value detainees. The prison was heavily guarded by a number of droids including droid commandos. The clone trooper training facilities in Tipoca City on Kamino used a Citadel Challenge training course.
I didn't stick to the original model 100 %, mainly due to the fact that I wanted to build an interior. That's why my citadel appears to be a bit "thicker" than the one you've seen in TCW. Also I added some things such as the details on the walls and the hangar inside the mountain. I was generally quite creative. Obviously, because I enjoy it and it's probably the most fun part about building with LEGO, but also because there weren't a lot of high res shots of the citadel available. So I had to come up with quite a few solutions of my own in order to finish this MOC.
I think the end result is pretty good and I really enjoyed working on this big project.

2018 WSR Spring Steam Gala
This weeks Macro Mondays effort on the theme of ' My Favourite Novel ', the inspiration being ( as if you couldn't guess ) 'War and peace' by Leo Tolstoy. I'm sure he would've been proud...HMM y'all!
"Rumors Of War" statue by artist Kehinde Wiley depicts an African American man dressed in streetwear in the pose of a Confederate War Statue. In a statement by Wiley " “The inspiration for Rumors of War is war—is an engagement with violence. Art and violence have for an eternity held a strong narrative grip with each other. Rumors of War attempts to use the language of equestrian portraiture to both embrace and subsume the fetishization of state violence. New York and Times Square in particular sit at the crossroads of human movement on a global scale. To have the Rumors of War sculpture presented in such a context lays bare the scope and scale of the project in its conceit to expose the beautiful and terrible potentiality of art to sculpt the language of domination.”
The statue temporarily installed in New York's Times Square until December will be permanently installed outside the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts less than a mile from the Confederate Statue that was its inspiration.
I wasn't planning on building anything for May 4th but after seeing all the amazing art people where posting for Star Wars day, I could help myself.
This droid has been on my to-do list for quite some time. They appear in the video game Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order as enemy hired by the imperial inquisitor to hunt down Jedi Kal Kestis (it also appeared in The Force Awakens outside Maz Kanata's Castle).
They are originally used for loading cargo but these units have been reprogrammed and modified by the Haxion Brood crime syndicate for bounty hunting work.
From Advance Wars an old Nintendo game!
I displayed these at Comic Con in august this year. I never really took the time to take photos of these buggers, well here they are!

There is a particular place reserved in Hell for those who profit from war and suffering. Dante believed it and so do I. The argument for a just universe is my strongest reason for believing in Eternal Justice. Otherwise the suffering of the innocent means nothing, and I cannot abide living in such a meaningless universe.
In this poster I have made it deliberately hard to read. Red text on a sea of blood. I find it almost physically nauseating to read. I don't apologise because actual blood is being spilt right now.
Bob Dylan's greatest and most bitter protest song needs to be heard again. Listen to this as you read the lyrics I will print out below. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEmI_FT4YHU
"Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you sit back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
That even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good?
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could?
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die
And your death will come soon
I'll follow your casket
By the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead."
This is the truth and I agree with Dylan's every word!
***BOYCOTT THIS GROUP!**********
I have been banned from a little group called "Worldwide Photography" for posting my opposition to Putin's War in Ukraine. This was just a summary decision announced in this thread.
www.flickr.com/groups/ww-photo/discuss/72157721916159941/
According to this Admin speaking out against an unjust war is "hate speech". This Admin Putin-lover has even said he will report us to Flickr. If this idiot (Stalin called Western fellow travellers "useful idiots") can't distinguish between a just and unjust cause it shows how deeply flawed and ready for total collapse our Western civilization is. I strongly suggest you boycott this group.
When you check out the Admin's own page you will see it is full of pro-Russian images. www.flickr.com/photos/-eu
I've blocked him as well.
Come check out all the cool stuff at Brickworld Chicago! I've got this piece and a bunch of others spread throughout the hall.
