The Burlington War Memorial now stands in a small park beside the City Hall. It was dedicated in April 1922 by Lord Byng and was then located in a park setting on the downtown shore of Lake Ontario. It was moved to its present location after the construction of the new City Hall in 1962.
The Cenotaph is a ten foot column of grey stone on a two tier stone base. On the top of the column is a seven foot bronze statue of a Canadian soldier in WWI battle-dress.
The names of 39 WWI fatalities from Burlington and Nelson Township are engraved on both sides of the column. On the back of the column are engraved the names of 17 key WWI Canadian battle locations such as Vimy Ridge, Arras, Mons, Ypres and the Somme.
On the front of the column is a large bronze plaque four feet by three feet in size, with the names inscribed of 43 service people from this area who died in WWII.
The Korean Vets are remembered by an engraving on the base of the column.
Each year on Remembrance Day, a Veterans Parade leads to the Cenotaph where a service is conducted by Branch 60, Royal Canadian Legion. This service is always well attended by citizens of all ages and representatives from all levels of government.

From 1950 to 1953, the United States joined with the United Nations forces in Korea to take a stand against what was deemed a threat to democratic nations worldwide. At war's end, a million and a half American veterans returned to a peacetime world of families, homes, and jobs - and to a country long reluctant to view the Korean War as something to memorialize. But to the men and women who served, the Korean War could never be a forgotten war.

Andrian
Kreye, Süddeutsche Zeitung, 11.7.2002
“La inseguridad al acompañar a uno
de los fotógrafos de guerra más
famoso y exitoso de la actualidad
constituye el punto fuerte del film
documental de Christian Frei, War
Photographer. Un estado de suspenso
nos pone a nosostros mismos
en movimiento, pues Frei situa,
en los marcos de sus propias historias,
las conocidas fotografías del
Time Magazine, Stern o Geo. Entre
la identificación y la mirada en
movimiento sobre las fronteras de
las fotos, surge un espacio para
preguntas y dudas, que se repiten
también en los diálogos. La imagen
cinematográfica y con ella su
espacio para la distancia, se transforman
en el reflejo de su objeto,
de tal manera que el War Photographer
de Frei casi se parece a una
fotografía de James Nachtwey.”
Jan Distelmeyer, Die Zeit, 11.7.2002
Fotógrafo de guerra
Cada minuto que paso en este sitio pienso en huir. No quiero estar aquí presente. ¿Debo
no habría terminado aún.”
Christian Frei utilizó microcámaras especiales, que sujetó a la cámara fotográfica de Nachtwey.

Now for something completely different from my goofy Hand Turkey.
Another sig commissioned by an awesome gentleman over at Teh Nook. He wanted it to be Gears of War style, and on one hand? drawing complicated scifi stuff isn't what I'm good at. On the other...stepping out of that comfort zone is awesome, and looking at finished work like this makes me realize I don't completely fail at scifi stuff.
Which is neat - I would like to do a scifi story one day, I think. Until then, though, Gears of War has awesome stuff to draw. If I had a 360 I would totally maybe try playing it since shooting stuff is fun.
But in truth I will be bitter at owners of 360's, PS3s and Wiis alike until I have the money to buy one of my own. ;_;
Vietnamese soldiers of the 21st Recon Company rush to board waiting Huey choppers in the rice paddies near their forward command post in South Vietnam on Nov. 14, 1969. The men are to be transported into the interior of the U-Minh forest, the large marshy and swamp and forest area at the southern tip of Vietnam, long considered to be a VC strong-hold. For the previous month, an all Vietnamese operation called "Operation U-Minh" had been attempting to drive the VC and NVA regulars from the area. It was the second such operation within the year. One of 81 panels from the Apocalypse sequence on the east window. This lowest row of panels above the first transom is difficult to appreciate owing to being obscured by stonework on the inside, thus I could only capture the top half of each scene (despite the fact these panels are larger than the rest of the sequence).
The great east window of York Minster is currently being restored by the York Glaziers Trust. The major conservation has restored much clarity to the scenes, returning them to a closer approximation of their original appearance and legibility with sensitive releading, removing heavy repair leads that had been introduced over the years. As of 2016 the work is two-thirds completed with the entire Apocalypse section of the window reinstalled along with the topmost traceries. The remainder including the final section depicting scenes from Genesis will hopefully be back in place in 2018.
The east window is the World's largest expanse of medieval stained glass, filling most of the east wall of the cathedral. It is divided into over a hundred square panels, most of which illustrate scenes from the Apocalypse, with a shorter sequence from Genesis above. The window was made by John Thornton of Coventry and his workshop and dates from 1405-8.
York Minster is England's largest medieval cathedral and almost impossible to do justice to. It has an awesome presence that cannot fail to impress.
Uniquely the cathedral was spared the ravages of the Civil War that decimated the medieval art of most English cathedrals and churches, and it thus possesses the largest collection of medieval glass in Britain throughout most of it's vast windows.
Manufactured by the Scott Foundry in Reading, PA, in January 1865 and February 1866, these two cannons were cast as 10- inch muzzle loading smooth bore weapons. in 1876 rifled sleeves were inserted into the gun tubes reducing the barrel diameters to 8 inches. The guns were mounted on barbette carriages at Fort Morgan, Alabama, In 1898 as part of the coastal defense system during the Spanish-American War. The guns were brought by rail to Fayetteville and installed as an integral part of the Confederate Park in 1905.
