Water Wars is a timely and darkly funny exploration of what happens between neighbours as the drought gets longer and tougher and then gets renamed as a ‘dry’.

"Tvrđa (Citadel) is the Old Town of the city of Osijek in Croatia. It is the best-preserved and largest ensemble of Baroque buildings in Croatia and consists of a Habsburg star fort built on the right bank of the River Drava. Tvrđa has been described by the World Monuments Fund as "a unique example of an eighteenth-century baroque military, administrative, and commercial urban center."
According to the 2001 census, within the Tvrđa city district, there are 10,277 inhabitants living in 3,310 households. The fort interior is now a centre of Osijek's nightlife with numerous bars and restaurants.

On 11 March 2017, GOC Hertfordshire held a 9.2 mile walk in and around Borehamwood and Shenley in Hertfordshire. I was due to lead the walk but was unwell and unable to attend, and therefore I couldn't take any photographs on the day. So I'm uploading archive photos from prior tests of the walk as I am unlikely to repeat the event and get a chance to take these photos again. On the day, Martin T led the walk, which was attended by 23 people. You can read the original event report from the final walk, find out more about the Gay Outdoor Club or see my collections.
Snapshot of U.S. Army soldiers from an artillery unit breaking down their temporary camp in a valley in preparation for moving out, somewhere in Korea around 1951 or 1952 during the Korean War. Photograph taken or collected by U.S. Army soldier Charles G. Blevins of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, while he was serving in Korea with this artillery unit [circa 1951-1952].

The monument dedicated to belarusian soldiers died in Afghan War (1979-1989) during communism time when Belarus was under soviet rule
Completed in 1923 by Prestwich and Sons. It is 100 ft high and is thought to be Britain’s tallest monument.
The frieze on the North side of the obelisk. On the far right can be seen The famous cat. Gilbert Ledward's name is below. 1923
"Gilbert Ledward's imagery takes on a timeless wistfulness that does not appear to be of this time. It responds to a time of great hurt. There is little savagery there, a great deal of strength but little anger. But if you look closely at the frieze, you will see in the group on the left a trampled German soldier on the left hand side."
This cenotaph is a white granite ashlar obelisk built in 1923, probably to a design by Grayson. It sits on a three-stepped plinth and on the north and south sides it has bronze relief panels that depict images of warfare. These were designed by Gilbert Ledward in 1922. On the east and west sides, figures of soldiers, a sailor and an airman are depicted. On platforms to the north and south of the obelisk are free-standing chest tombs with cast bronze roofs. On the roofs are names of the fallen.
These are from late fall 2002, at the Fresh Produce Stand. There was a strange mix of styles and intentions. The range was from some of the most beautiful writing ever in the Valley to plain old scribbles. The memorial panel for Perico was very touching. The Fresh Produce Stand walls are on the west side of Van Nuys Boulevard just south of the Woodman Avenue intersection in Panorama City, California. Whenever there were changes I tried to get photos. From 2000 to 2004 I took photos of graffiti at several locations in my San Fernando Valley neighborhood in northern Los Angeles. The area includes the communities of San Fernando, Arleta, Pacoima and Panorama City.
For all my friends at HCHS looking for tug-o-war pics. In case you are wondering about the processing on these, I was going for the gritty look.
Stepping on Star Wars Legos is like navigating a galaxy far, far away in the dark – a perilous journey where the Force is replaced by the pain radiating from those tiny, interlocking bricks. It's a unique rite of passage for parents, akin to mastering the Jedi arts of tiptoeing and silent expletives. So, next time you find yourself on the wrong end of a Death Star assault underfoot, just remember: the Force may be with you, but those Legos definitely aren't. May your feet recover at warp speed!

Rolly is reading the programme we got from our visit to the New London Theatre on Drury Lane. We went to see "War Horse". It isn't a very inspiring picture, I know, but you can't take pictures in the theatre. And anyway, who would want to when you are watching the most stupendous play. Rolly wanted to tell you all about it, but I've had to caution him about giving too much of the plot away.
It is the story of a horse which is taken to the front line in France. It is based on the book War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. It is told with the help of life-sized 'puppets' operated by teams of performers. And it is absolutely amazing. An absolute must see.
It is also being transferred to Broadway next year, and Steven Spielberg is currently making a film of the story (with real horses!) to be released next year.
I spent some time studying this "War Memorial III," by Linda Cunningham (1987), not knowing the title while I was in its presence. As I stood there, a woman commented on how magnificent it is. I said yes -- it looks to me like a very muscular woman.
"I don't get that at all," she said. "It's more like a Dr. Seuss character."
However you interpret it, the piece is an interesting war memorial.

The Burlington War Memorial now stands in a small park beside the City Hall. It was dedicated in April 1922 by Lord Byng and was then located in a park setting on the downtown shore of Lake Ontario. It was moved to its present location after the construction of the new City Hall in 1962.
The Cenotaph is a ten foot column of grey stone on a two tier stone base. On the top of the column is a seven foot bronze statue of a Canadian soldier in WWI battle-dress.
The names of 39 WWI fatalities from Burlington and Nelson Township are engraved on both sides of the column. On the back of the column are engraved the names of 17 key WWI Canadian battle locations such as Vimy Ridge, Arras, Mons, Ypres and the Somme.
On the front of the column is a large bronze plaque four feet by three feet in size, with the names inscribed of 43 service people from this area who died in WWII.
The Korean Vets are remembered by an engraving on the base of the column.
Each year on Remembrance Day, a Veterans Parade leads to the Cenotaph where a service is conducted by Branch 60, Royal Canadian Legion. This service is always well attended by citizens of all ages and representatives from all levels of government.
