Rolly is reading the programme we got from our visit to the New London Theatre on Drury Lane. We went to see "War Horse". It isn't a very inspiring picture, I know, but you can't take pictures in the theatre. And anyway, who would want to when you are watching the most stupendous play. Rolly wanted to tell you all about it, but I've had to caution him about giving too much of the plot away.
It is the story of a horse which is taken to the front line in France. It is based on the book War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. It is told with the help of life-sized 'puppets' operated by teams of performers. And it is absolutely amazing. An absolute must see.
It is also being transferred to Broadway next year, and Steven Spielberg is currently making a film of the story (with real horses!) to be released next year.
I spent some time studying this "War Memorial III," by Linda Cunningham (1987), not knowing the title while I was in its presence. As I stood there, a woman commented on how magnificent it is. I said yes -- it looks to me like a very muscular woman.
"I don't get that at all," she said. "It's more like a Dr. Seuss character."
However you interpret it, the piece is an interesting war memorial.

The Burlington War Memorial now stands in a small park beside the City Hall. It was dedicated in April 1922 by Lord Byng and was then located in a park setting on the downtown shore of Lake Ontario. It was moved to its present location after the construction of the new City Hall in 1962.
The Cenotaph is a ten foot column of grey stone on a two tier stone base. On the top of the column is a seven foot bronze statue of a Canadian soldier in WWI battle-dress.
The names of 39 WWI fatalities from Burlington and Nelson Township are engraved on both sides of the column. On the back of the column are engraved the names of 17 key WWI Canadian battle locations such as Vimy Ridge, Arras, Mons, Ypres and the Somme.
On the front of the column is a large bronze plaque four feet by three feet in size, with the names inscribed of 43 service people from this area who died in WWII.
The Korean Vets are remembered by an engraving on the base of the column.
Each year on Remembrance Day, a Veterans Parade leads to the Cenotaph where a service is conducted by Branch 60, Royal Canadian Legion. This service is always well attended by citizens of all ages and representatives from all levels of government.

From 1950 to 1953, the United States joined with the United Nations forces in Korea to take a stand against what was deemed a threat to democratic nations worldwide. At war's end, a million and a half American veterans returned to a peacetime world of families, homes, and jobs - and to a country long reluctant to view the Korean War as something to memorialize. But to the men and women who served, the Korean War could never be a forgotten war.

This shows a lot of behind the scenes photos of my entry into the Lego Ideas SW Holiday Contest. Credit to my wife for the Skywalker family photo idea and artistic frame. A lot of photos were taken by my great friend Henry. As C-3PO likes to give the odds, I will say the odds of winning a prize spot are about 3 in 1000. Yes there are over a 1,000 entries in this contest! Either way, I’m honored to participate and I pushed all my skills really hard on this for 100% effort. This creation is my capstone lego project for 2020 and it has been a wildly fun year for lego building. Happy Holidays to you all!

The Nicholson War Memorial in Leek, Staffordshire, England is a 1925 war memorial It was commissioned by local manufacturer Sir Arthur Nicholson and his wife Lady Marianne, in memory of their son Lieutenant Basil Lee Nicholson, who was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium, in 1915, at the age of 24; and in memory of all the other local men who died fighting in World War I.
It is one of the tallest war memorials in the country.
Not bad for a small market town with a Population of just 20,000 people, In 1086 Leek had a recorded population of just 28.
