Gene Elsea, a member of the Patriot Guard who lives in Dayton, Tenn., salutes as Taps is played during a funeral for Staff Sgt. Berthold A. Chastain on Wednesday in Birchwood, Tenn. Chastain, went missing aboard a B-24 Liberator bomber in World War II. His remains were recently recovered and returned to the family.

This was September 2, 1945, after the Japanese formally signed the surrender documents ending World War II. This is from my Dad and is the resulting celebration on Okinawa. Those are tracer rounds not fireworks

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Members of the Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission and residents and staff from the Southwest Veterans Home were among those who attended the Southwestern Pennsylvania Word War II Memorial dedication ceremony Dec. 6. After the dedication, attendees toured the memorial’s numerous panes depicting WWII events and southwest Pennsylvania’s contributions to the war effort. On July 17 and 18, 2014, Howard Community College invited several vererans of World War II to campus to share their stories of the war. In addition to participating in a panel discussion, the veterans were also interviewed on camera by HCC students and faculty.
