A Arcelor Mittal SW1550 and GP15 pull a massive cut of steel coil cars from the Arcelor Mittal plant on a rainy day in East Chicago.

The shadows of nearby buildings are already creeping up the bridge piers as New York, Susquehanna & Western train SU-99 crosses the Hackensack River on its way west, after being delayed leaving MC Yard. SD70M-2 no. 4066 is on point, followed by 4064 and SD40s 3024 and 3022, and GP40 3046 (NS) and SD40 3018 were on the rear hitching a ride as train WSX.

WSX on the final stretch of trackage until they reach Sparta Jct, where they'll set off hot cars and do some industry work, as SJ1 had marked off for the day.

NYS&W WSX blasts through Wyckoff with 3014 leading a cut of well cars and one hopper to be dropped in Sparta.

A WSX to Sparta mistaken as an early SU99 rounding the curve at Sparta, in nice golden hour lighting. Not only was 3014 leading the road power on a train looking a lot like SU99, but made it to Sparta in light which is rare for this time of the year.

Working on ex-Erie trackage, NYSW WSX pulls down from Tilcon on the Pompton Industrial, with their main in the foreground. Not often do you see daylight switches from this place , let alone an Alco doing it. After sorting out ballast cars, they would take one loaded up to about Smith Mills and start dumping.

NYSW WS-X heads east past the Wyckoff Station with SD45-2 3634 and SD40-2 3024 leading 12 stone cars for interchange with NJ TRANSIT. Both locomotives were built for the Burlington Northern in the 1970s and have since made their way onto the NYSW roster.

WS-X returns eastbound over the Hackensack River in Bogota after making a Saturday run to Sparta with SD45-2 3618 leading. 3618 was built for the Burlington Northern in 1971 before being purchased by the NYSW in 1985 for use on Sealand stack trains. With the Sealand trains long gone, the 3618 has soldiered on into the 21st century, mainly assigned to local service. It is one of the few remaining "cool" units left on the roster in my book in a railroad mostly powered by SD60s and lease units.

A late morning Sparta turn charges west past Smiths Mills with a neat arrangement of power, particularly with the leased M420W trailing.

WS-X departs PC after working with former Southern Railroad “High Hood” GP38-2 #5212

I don’t usually add B&W affects to my photos, but I thought it would work with this one. NS #5212 leads the Susquehanna Sunday local back towards MC Yard in Ridgefield Park after working multiple industries along the way.

LC71 WSX is a BYD D9UR/Alexander Dennis Enviro200EV new as First Glasgow 64145 in February 2022. It is branded for service 7 and seen here in Glasgow in service 7A to Cambuslang.

A Sunday extra NYSW crew brings outbound cars from Sparta eastbound over the Hackensack River in Bogota, NJ with SD40T-2 3014 leading.

With 37677 banking at the rear and 15 PHAs & 14 PGAs in the consist, BR Railfreight 37686 & 37676 were making a spirited departure from Peak Forest when recorded on a Monday in September 1989. They were hauling the 6B10 WSX RMC service to Bletchley.

I was a little late in catching up to the ferry move of former New York & Greenwood Lake Railway equipment over the NYS&W from Passaic Jct to Lackawaxen, NY. This is one of the few locations at which I managed to catch most of the consist in one frame, albeit behind a hideous collection of poles and wires. NYS&W WS-X handled the equipment behind a CSX GP40-2/GP38-2 combination. Here the train heads downgrade at the Main Street crossing in Sparta, NJ.

Everyone broke out in a frenzy for the evenings WSX when news broke the previous night of M420W DL 3560 being on the last nights SU100. Having being on lease to the NYSW for a few weeks now, it was uncertain whether it'd make a trip to the southern division. This is the first time that a Alco has been on the property since I believe the Ex Cartier units from the 2000s.

A severely backlit NYSW WS-X runs north past Lake Grinnell on the former L&HR main. When I arrived at this location is was mostly cloudy and this view was evenly lit...of course just as the train arrived, so did the sun! I'm posting the shot anyway, so others can share in my frustration. WS-X was ferrying former New York & Greenwood Lake Railway equipment over the NYS&W from Passaic Jct to Lackawaxen, NY. The steam-era telltale lives on at this location.
