Weirton Steel’s 309 (Now in a tacky Cleveland Cliffs paint) shoves empty flats into the coating complex here in Weirton. Only so long ago was this shot impossible, now made available by the demolition of the BOP. Long live Weirton Steel.

Dramatic afternoon skies create dancing sunlight throughout the mill complex at Weirton, WV. The plant looks like a ghost town on this blustery afternoon.
Weirton Steel (CLIFFS) 309 returns engine light past the oil house building on the return from spotting empty coil cars at the tandem mill. Later in the day they will return to pull loads and take them to the tin mill.

The shadows of nearby buildings are already creeping up the bridge piers as New York, Susquehanna & Western train SU-99 crosses the Hackensack River on its way west, after being delayed leaving MC Yard. SD70M-2 no. 4066 is on point, followed by 4064 and SD40s 3024 and 3022, and GP40 3046 (NS) and SD40 3018 were on the rear hitching a ride as train WSX.
