The afternoon sun spills its glittery rays over the lake at Villa Borghese in the heart of Rome, offering a rare respite in the bustling city where the old meets the new.
My original picture was in color but I wanted to emphasize the shoes and the Jewish woman. So I converted to black and white and blurred the other people. This site really affected me when I read the story. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoes_on_the_Danube_Bank
There was more than one occurence where Jewish people were lined up on the bank of the Danube and shot. It's so heartbreaking.

Castle Tioram (pronounced "Cheerum") in Loch Moidart on the west coast of Scotland.
The castle is in a strategic position on a tidal island in the loch which is cut off at high tide. The Castle is said to have been originally built in the 12th century although modified over the centuries and has a long and bloody history as a seat of power for the Clanranalds (of Clan MacDonald). It was torched by it's owner, Allan, during the Jacobite rebellion of 1715 to avoid it falling into enemy hands and has been in ruins ever since.
Finds including a 7th Century Bronze Bowl and evidence of Viking implements indicate that the island site was occupied long before the castle was built.
Photograph taken from the deck of a yacht. We were anchored in the channel only about 100 yards from the castle although the wide angle lens makes it look further away. My take on a dramatic high contrast effect to bring out all the textures in the rather grey and forbidding looking sky which seemed to match the history of the castle.

We were lucky to visit this Choeten/chorten/stupa when there was a festival. It was a brilliant atmosphere & although we were unable to communicate verbally with the crowds of people there we still felt very welcome. There was only one area we were not allowed to enter as that was the most sacred place.

An abandoned truck sits in a field in London, TX. Nature takes back the land as it grows around the truck.
Abandono. Obra inacabada. A veces una decisión de última hora en el camino a seguir te ofrece de repente lugares inesperados donde poder sacar una buena foto.
Este sitio me pareció lleno de un ambiente de tristeza y abandono. Esa silla solitaria y ese tubo abandonado al olvido antes de reparar la fuente, sumidos ambos en las sombras. Por otra parte el resplandor que llegaba desde la escalera daba a entender que la vida seguía arriba, mientras que aquí abajo el tiempo se había detenido.
