The goal of this image was to capture the architecture of the underside of a bridge at an interesting angle. Freeman suggests choosing a viewpoint that shows a range of distance to strengthen the perspective in an image. I tried to choose a viewpoint where the closer objects are larger and the farther away objects are smaller. This image met my goal, and I think the choice of angle worked out well. The exposure, contrast, shadows, blacks, and clarity were increased while the whites and haze were reduced. There is some post-crop vignetting, and the image was sharpened and converted to black and white.

The shot was taken with a Fujifilm X-T2 using an XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS Lens @ 55mm, f/4, 1/2000, and ISO 200. DSCF4598 #10YearsOfXMount

Captured against the vibrant backdrop of a fireworks display, this photograph showcases the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa in all its architectural glory. As orange and blue fireworks from the Grand feux du Casino Lac Leamy cascade behind its iconic spire, the foreground features the eerie yet enchanting glow of the 'Mamán' spider sculpture.

Some notes on technique used:

First off, tripod, stable, tripod.Camera straps removed, and do not touch the camera after it is set. I focus in auto and then switch to manual on the lens. I take test shots to figure out the ambient light minimum. In this case about 5 seconds.

To capture the photo I utilized the MIOPS controller on my camera using the MIOPS App. Setting my camera to bulb mode I am able go beyond a 30 sec exposure and set exact durations through the MIOPS App. In this case I set an exposure of one minute.

My technique involved alternating between blocking the lens with a black card (effectively using the card as a shutter) and timing the fireworks, aiming to capture 3 or 4 bursts in one exposure. After several fireworks lit the scene, I'd end the exposure using the app.

Final note: I count to 5 internally, ensuring ample time to expose the ambient lighting.
