Evening festivities on World Photography Day at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. An amusement ride in motion that is pretty too look at and one that there is no way I would ever think about getting on it.
Giant Three-Way Plug (Cube Tap)” is the work of Claes Oldenburg, an American sculptor known for creating giant replicas of everyday objects. The Philadelphia Museum of Art has a large collection of outdoor sculpture displayed across the adjacent park areas.
This new Francis Crick Institute, named for one of the discoverers of the DNA double-helix, is the largest biomedical research laboratory in Europe. It's in King's Cross just down the canal from my house -- a fantastic piece of architecture, and it's partly run by Imperial College where I studied biochemistry myself in the 1960s.
The Spreuer Bridge is one of two extant covered wooden footbridges in the city of Lucerne, Switzerland. Besides the other preserved bridge, the Kapellbrücke, a third bridge of this type – the Hofbrücke – existed in Lucerne, but was demolished in the 19th century.
The first bridge was constructed in the 13th century to connect the Mühlenplatz (Mill Place) on the right bank of the Reuss with the mills in the middle of the river. The extension of the bridge to the left bank was completed only in c. 1408. This was the only bridge in Lucerne where it was allowed to dump chaff and leaves into the river, as it was the bridge farthest downriver. The bridge was destroyed by a flood in 1566 and then rebuilt, together with a granary as the bridge head, called the Herrenkeller.
The pediments of the Spreuer Bridge contain paintings in the interior triangular frames, which is a feature unique to the wooden bridges of Lucerne. In the case of the Spreuer Bridge, the paintings form a Danse Macabre, known as Totentanz in German, which was created from 1616 to 1637 under the direction of painter Kaspar Meglinger. It is the largest known example of a Totentanz cycle. Of the 67 original paintings, 45 are still in existence. Most of the paintings contain the coat of arms of the donor in the lower left corner and to the right the coat of arms of the donor's wife. The black wooden frames bear explanations in verse and the names of the donors. The paintings also contain portraits of the donors and other exponents of Lucerne society. The painters of Lucerne knew the woodcuts by Hans Holbein the Younger but were more advanced in their painting technique. The images and texts of the Lucerne Danse Macabre are intended to highlight that there's no place in the city, in the country or at sea where death isn't present.
And they forgot the Seafood platter and the Crab Sticks...l won't be using them again.
I think this has been around the planet several times in the last 10 years.
Another shot from my Quebec road trip. This giant church looked like a spaceship from the outside and was amazing inside. I came early before the mass started and was able to get a few shots with my little ultra wide angle Voigtlander 12mm. This is the view straight up.

Fotoausstellung 2022 - Thema: Nichtigkeit
Vom Mittelalter bis heute verknüpfen Vanitas-Stillleben "Eitelkeit" und "Vergänglichkeit" mit unserem Leben. Dabei spielen die arrangierten Gegenstände eine gravierende sinnbildliche Rolle.
Mit meiner modernen Interpretation der Vanitas-Stillleben möchte ich den Betrachter zu einer aktiven gedanklichen Teilnahme auffordern und zu einer Selbstreflexion des heutigen Überflusses anregen.
Das verbindende Element der Serie ist je ein modernes Objekt sowie das Stilmittel der Levitation-Fotografie (schwebende Gegenstände).
From the Middle Ages to the present day, vanitas still lifes link vanity and transience with our lives. In this context, the arranged objects play a grave symbolic role.
With my modern interpretation of the vanitas still life, I would like to invite the viewer to an active mental participation and to stimulate a self-reflection on today's abundance.
The unifying element of the series is one modern object each as well as the stylistic device of levitation photography (floating objects).
