Fotoausstellung 2022 - Thema: Nichtigkeit
Vom Mittelalter bis heute verknüpfen Vanitas-Stillleben "Eitelkeit" und "Vergänglichkeit" mit unserem Leben. Dabei spielen die arrangierten Gegenstände eine gravierende sinnbildliche Rolle.
Mit meiner modernen Interpretation der Vanitas-Stillleben möchte ich den Betrachter zu einer aktiven gedanklichen Teilnahme auffordern und zu einer Selbstreflexion des heutigen Überflusses anregen.
Das verbindende Element der Serie ist je ein modernes Objekt sowie das Stilmittel der Levitation-Fotografie (schwebende Gegenstände).
From the Middle Ages to the present day, vanitas still lifes link vanity and transience with our lives. In this context, the arranged objects play a grave symbolic role.
With my modern interpretation of the vanitas still life, I would like to invite the viewer to an active mental participation and to stimulate a self-reflection on today's abundance.
The unifying element of the series is one modern object each as well as the stylistic device of levitation photography (floating objects).

Salisbury Cathedral has been a place of worship, welcome, and hospitality for over 800 years. Its Spire (the tallest in the country and a feat of medieval engineering) rises to a breath-taking 404ft/123m, guiding travellers, merchants, and pilgrims to the historic city.
The story of this great Cathedral is a tale of defiance and ingenuity that begins back in 1218, when the Bishop of Salisbury abandoned the original cathedral at Old Sarum, and moved down to the banks of the Avon, where the Cathedral stands today.
One of only four surviving original 1215 Magna Carta came to the Cathedral and it can be viewed in a special exhibition explaining its origins and continuing relevance to our lives today. Time in the Cathedral is marked by the tick of the oldest working mechanical clock in the world, accompanied by the sound of water trickling from the contemporary baptismal font. Ever since the train left Chester, IL and crossed the Kaskaskia, catching up to it was near impossible. There were times where it was close - I could see the train in the distance while flying down Bluff Road, but I never could quite catch up until the train started to reach Dupo and the East St. Louis area. I then promptly abandoned it there and raced for St. Louis proper, and it's a good thing I did!
I was more of an early arrival than most near the MacArthur bridge, and so I was able to find a spot easily enough. It didn't take long for more of what I simply call "the riffraff" to show up and crowd everyone out, which meant getting the shot I wanted was already impossible and I'd have to adjust. The wait was long enough to figure it out, anyway, and some forty minutes after arriving, the train was greenlit across the MacArthur.
Straddling the old Route 66 ramp's guard rail, I leaned as far over as I could and watched as the massive engine slowly rumbled across the aging bridge. With a slowly setting sun behind us, the Big Boy put on a fine show. Although I didn't know about its reverse move to the arch, this was good enough for me - a very long day done, and with quite the send-off no less. What a day.
