Housing Works began the tradition of The Reading of the Names in December 1995, emerging from an act of civil disobedience and a 24-hour reading of names. This year, more than 140 volunteers have come together to read from a list of over 30,000 community-sourced names, continuing this powerful act of remembrance and resistance.

TVAAP, a partner organization of the JOHAP programme, implement HIV and AIDS prevention and care programme in Thoyandou Valley in Limpopo, South Africa. Meriam Nkwanika is a coordinator of the TVAAP home-based care team. This team provides basic nursing, as well as cooking, cleaning, washing and emotional support to people living with HIV/AIDS in their own homes. The teams will also give support to people sick with other illnesses, so that those they care for are not singled out for discrimination. The home based care team provide critical physical and emotional support, giving dignity and hope to the lives of persons living with HIV and AIDS.
