WORD UP! poetry slam 2010 at BPL Central Library.

 

At the 3rd annual Word Up Poetry Slam, contestants performed original works inspired by themes of the book, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" – the power of imagination, friendship and persuasion.

  

Word UP! is a poetry slam for Jefferson County high school students (grades 9-12) sponsored by the Birmingham Public Library and Real Life Poets. Participants write and perform an original work inspired by the theme "SPEAK OUT". The participants in WORD UP! will be the winners from each school's contest. Each school is responsible for holding its own contest.

Erika Wade was the first place winner of Word Up! The high school student contestant winners performed original works inspired by To Kill a Mockingbird. at Alabama Bound, Birmingham Public Library’s 10th annual author festival. This year the festival featured Project Mockingbird
