I thought I should look for something that is from the past since we were in the B&W realm with this challenge.

OK, maybe these are still being used today by a small segment of the population. Those who have butlers perhaps. But I don't think there are many people out there under say 30, that know what they are, let alone have used them.

Bonus points for anyone who knows the correct name for these things.

On my wanderings this morning I came upon this most unusual seed pod. I have never seen one like this before. The color is how I found it.

Milos (in Greek, Μήλος, classic Greek: Μῆλος – Melos, Doric Greek: Μάλος – Malos), is a volcanic Greek island in the Aegean Sea, just north of the Sea of Crete. Milos is the southwesternmost island in the Cyclades group. The island is famous for the statue of Aphrodite (the "Venus de Milo", now in the Louvre), and also for statues of the Greek god Asclepius (now in the British Museum) and the Poseidon and an archaic Apollo in Athens. The Municipality of Milos also includes the uninhabited offshore islands of Antimilos and Akradies. The combined land area is 160.147 km² and the 2001 census population was 4,771 inhabitants.
