Today there were beautiful weather conditions in the area Waterland, February 24, 2016.

The rain clouds were enormous while the sun was shining at the locations where I took these pictures. I was happy that I came home on my bike without becoming too wet.

This picture is taken on the Uitdammerdijk with left the Kinselmeer and right the IJmeer and Monnickendam at the horizon under the dark hail cloud.

See my album Project: Sea dike.

While we were in Chiang Mai we took the opportunity to look around some of the craft villages that the city is famous for. The best place that we went to look at was this place where they still make traditional unmbrellas both for shade and rain.

We were sitting have a picnic dinner waiting for the moose to arrive at the lake when this little ground squirrel kept getting closer and closer, looking for a handout. I got down on the ground and waiting to see just how close he would get. Turns out pretty close! I'm sure he was disappointed though as the Cheetos reward never came. Please don't feed the wildlife!

Thanks for your views and comments and have a Happy Monday!

Cherry Promise.......

Yesterday we went to our local park where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The scene was magical.

This is the first sign of spring, the hope of things to come. the buds appear and the leaves start to push forth just before the bloom appears.

Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favourite and for the kind comments,

Those were the days my friend,

We thought they’d never end,

We’d sing and dance forever and a day,

We’d live the life we wanted to,

We’d roll the dice but never lose,

Those were the days,

Those days, those were the days.

Thought these were quite late in the season to still be unfurling - especially as they were at Glendurgan down in the Tropics of Cornwall, Glendurgan is on the South facing side of the Helford river so a prime spot for many a tender plant as well as the hardy ferns

We were walking through a wooded area in Arroyo Frio and as we came out into a clearing there was a family of Wild Boar - four adults and two hoglets - foraging in the grass. They all did a runner as soon as they saw us! I will post the mum tomorrow.

Taken in Arroyo Frio, Andalucia, Spain.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.

There were always lots of Fuschia's in hanging pots around mum's garden, they were one of her favourite plants. It will be three years later this year since we lost mum, and it was her birthday earlier this month.

So, on a lovely outing with the FFF+ today at Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens in Sherbrooke in the Dandenong Hills, as soon as I saw these I knew I had to make an image for my mum.

Miss you mum, every day!

We were staying in Gullane on a short break so I took the chance to walk out to see the two wrecked X-Class Mini Submarines in Aberlady Bay which were built for the Royal Navy between 1943 and 1944.

We were passing nearby to Happisburgh and I just had to check if the rape field had been cut. Luckily it was still there and I managed to take a few shots before the sun disappeared

There were bazillions of these birds on fence posts in most any wetland area. Strangely enough, we only saw one or two Upland Sandpipers the entire trip which I would have thought we would have seen many more with the given habitat. They also perch on these fence posts in grassy wetland areas.

Again--way too high an ISO for these bright light conditions---

This is what happens when using a new camera not knowing all of its nuances just yet----NOW I KNOW!!!

These trees were at the back of the site we stayed at. It was in Cornwall but overlooked the Devon countryside. I loved the view, even though I had to hop on and off a fairly unstable wall. The light was fabulous, just before a big storm.

Once we were inside the palace, the crowd was regulated by security people at every door. The crowds in each room were still dense and security hurried us along, but there were photo opportunities as the rooms cleared. Between each room we were corralled in corridors were we shuffled towards the next room. People at our backs were continually pushing us forward, even when we were at a standstill.

An extract from this day's Journal:-

We shuffled from room to room while Katrina tried to tell us about everything in each room we entered. As it happened, at least half a dozen other guides were trying to do the same thing in a multiplicity of languages. The crowds were dense, the noise dreadful, and the place was stiflingly hot.

We shuffled along in a tide of humanity that just went on and on. Then a woman ahead if me slipped and fell, she went down face first and was bleeding from around her nose and eyes. People helped her up and the security people, who were everywhere, went to her aid. How they were ever going to get help to her, or carry her out, seemed an impossibility.

Roads were not too good and I was trying to decide where to go as the train was closing in. Fortunately they jumped me here so I "settled" for a shot at the former Reading RR station. Glad I did.

We were so worried about survival

And the end of the world

We forgot to have a simple daydream

About the way Winter has its own melody

How ice clings to a pane

In a temporary way that somehow still

Feels like Forever

And the frozen daggers that drip

Remind us of our own inner homeostasis

Isn’t it so sad

When our time of reverie is up

And we have to join the world again?

0905 Daydreams Series

Verdigris WL

We were travelling in the city in those touristic cars, and passing under an iron bridge that projected great shadows. The sun was high and it was a time for great contrasts, hard light make great shadows. When I looked at my friend's face I immediately saw the portrait in black and white. My camera was in my hands, I just raised it and clicked.

There were 7 adult Bald Eagles fighting for a duck kill. The others moved away as this one swooped in.

There were far bigger waves and earlier timing on them but I loved each wave in the later stages as the lighthouse just "smoked". It has been an unusual series of easterly winds.

Were You good or naughty this year?

Were along the former Santa Fe's Raton Pass division at Springer N.M with a work train passing through the classic semaphore signals April 2021 .Happy Semaphore Sunday

The clouds were amazing at the lake today. I went there hoping to get a sunset with bright color and was instead greeted this sky. I took my tripod and started clicking away with different views of the tufas and the lake. This was my first view and I could hardly wait until I got to the shoreline. More to come.

INDIEN, Khajuraho (Tempel)

Most Khajuraho temples were built between 950 and 1050 by the Chandela dynasty. Historical records note that the Khajuraho temple site had 85 temples by 12th century, spread over 20 square kilometers. Of these, only about 20 temples have survived, spread over 6 square kilometers. Of the various surviving temples, the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is decorated with a profusion of sculptures with intricate details, symbolism and expressiveness of ancient Indian art

The Khajuraho temples feature a variety of art work, of which 10% is sexual or erotic art outside and inside the temples. Some of the temples that have two layers of walls have small erotic carvings on the outside of the inner wall. Some scholars suggest these to be tantric sexual practices.] Other scholars state that the erotic arts are part of Hindu tradition of treating kama as an essential and proper part of human life, and its symbolic or explicit display is common in Hindu temples. James McConnachie, in his history of the Kamasutra, describes the sexual-themed Khajuraho sculptures as "the apogee of erotic art":

An oldie but memories were still made that night....

Via external communication outside flickr I received the comment that this could also be called 'holding hands'...

I had to go and see what was meant, but yes! I see! These flowers are on a school trip, holding hands!

'Holding hands' is perfect! Thanks Hans!

Twin Leopards and Paddington and New friend Frīda and my old childhood Bear Miķelītis and Angel Bear that lives in this house and cares for other Teddy Bears who also live here.

"So, are you leaving tomorrow?" Angel Bear asked

"Yes, sir, tomorrow we are going on holiday", Paddington replied

"Are you going far away?" Angel Bear asked again

" We are going home to Latvia" said Miķelītis

"I am so sorry you couldn't been seen by Bear Doctor" said Angel Bear to Miķelītis.

" They had no more appointments in Bear Hospital this year, but we will definitely try again next year!" Paddington explained the situation.

"And as you know all those doctor strikes this year did not help much too" Frīda joined the conversation

"Let's hope," said Bear Angel, " that next year everyone that needs a doctor will see them... "

And they continued to watch the planes in Moonlight...

Were following this southbound on the former CGW line as he passes through New Hampton Iowa station Oct 1977

There were several early built hotrods at the show, and all were built in the 1950's - 1960's, and this spectacular 1932 Ford highboy was one of them. It is probably one of the classiest all steel bodied hotrods I've seen in some time. Done beautifully in complimentary green with red wheels, and a red leather interior, and a touch of chrome plating. The fit and finish was pure perfection, and I hope my photos here will show that!

1977, we were four friends travelling individually in two vans, one VW , and one Mercedes bus from Berlin, Germany all the way to the North Cape in Norway. Starting from West-Berlin we had to drive on the transit road through the GDR to Sassnitz at the German Baltic coast, then take the ferry to Trelleborg in Sweden, and then further up to the north. It has been in June-July, because we likes to experience the midnight sun up the Arctic Circle.

I took the photo in 1977 with an analogue Asahi Pentax SP II (M42) camera and slide film, then digitalised by using a a Nikon Coolscan film scanner and further edited in Photoshop Lightroom.

They were holding art classes for children at the Souq Waqif Art Center. This was at 10 or 11 at night because it was Ramadan and it was something like 115 degrees F during the day. This was a multi-story building. Through the coloanade on each side of this main space was a corridor leading to all of the other spaces and rooms. The corridor was lined with art, mostly paintings, from the local artists.

Super Sunday to you my friend.

Blackhouses were named not because of the fact that they were in the early days smoke filled and had small windows, but because they were compared to new houses being built in the late 1800’s which were called ‘white houses’.

The new ‘white houses’ were designed to separate humans from their livestock and animals.

The design of a blackhouse originates back several thousand years, as does the constructional method.

The building consists of two concentric dry stone walls with a gap between them filled with earth or peat.

The roof was either thatched or made up of turfs and constructed upon a wooden frame.

The frame was supported by the inner wall, which gave the characteristic look of a shelf around the outside of the building.

As the roofing material had to withstand quite extreme weather conditions at times, the roofing material was often secured down by using netting with large stones tied at the ends.

Unbelievably, some of the blackhouses were still inhabited until the middle 1970’s, although it has to be said some blackhouses had fireplaces and chimneys, instead of the chimney free traditional construction.

On Lewis, the best examples to view are at Gearrannan, where it is possible to see a range of houses all in one place.
