The year is off to a great start for our third cohort of Abundant Leadership Institute students in Rwanda. Mid-January, they were joined by the Rev. Dr. Carson Pue, from Trinity Western University, who delivered an engaging module on strategic planning. As Carson shared from his extensive leadership experience and facilitated stimulating group discussions, students had the opportunity to develop valuable skills and knowledge that can now be applied as they lead and serve in their own contexts. We're so grateful to Carson, and to all those who helped to make this training such a success! #leadership

AnnaB set off fire crackers outside for Chinese New Year, they were very loud, and hugely fun! (photo cred to Justyn)
Year 5 had a very successful trip to the Wellspring Overnight Camp in Wadi El Beit last week. High ropes, Zip wires and other team building activities were enjoyed by all. Teachers were so proud to see so many of our students overcoming their initial fears and taking a risk. The three days of the camp were nonstop and, needless to say, the buses were much quieter on the journey home!

Stu & Debbie Mitchell are amazing #teachers from #BC who are using their gifts to serve at the #Wellspring Academy. Today Stu delighted the grade 4 class during a #science lesson as they launched bottle rockets…it was a "blast". #education #learningisfun #purejoy #rwanda
Two of our newest North American team members, Quentin & Louise, are currently in Rwanda experiencing Wellspring's work for the first time, and already they are sending some very encouraging reports. Today, Quentin had the opportunity to visit one of the remote Rubavu schools that we are currently working in, and was inspired by the difference that a mobilized parent community is making there (including seeing student dropout rates reduced to zero)! Antoine*, a teacher, now understands that support and encouragement are crucial to his students’ success. Instead of beating kids for wrong answers like he used to, he uses Wellspring's positive behavioural management techniques. He helps his students work through their mistakes and applauds them when they find the solution. #storyofone *A pseudonym
April 2019 was an exciting month at Wellspring, as we began our direct work with teachers in Rwanda's Rubavu district! Since our work started in Rubavu, we've been investing first in leadership and in mobilizing parent communities, which has laid a strong foundation and resulted in a sense of anticipation among teachers. The result was that 149 of the 150 invited teachers attended our first training workshop in April! Our Senior Program Manager shared just this week that "God is doing miracles in Rubavu, and the school leaders, teachers and parents we are working with are just amazing! They attend workshops in big numbers, they are eager to learn, participation is very high. You can see people who are thirsty to learn how to do things better." We look forward to sharing more with you as this journey continues ...
Do you know how to measure buoyancy? Thanks to this neat physics experiment, the kids at Gikomero do! Our trainers work with teachers to create engaging lessons that bring kids into their learning and help them understand concepts at a much deeper level. Experiments and lessons like this one help develop the minds of the next great scientists! #WellspringWednesday
