Gitega, Burundi | This time 2 years ago, a handful of our team headed down to Burundi to catch a vision for this beautiful nation and how we could work alongside the people there. At the moment, our work has been put on pause due to political instability in the country. Please pray for Burundi - for stability, for the conflict at hand and that we will soon be able to continue our work there. #thewellspringfoundation #burundi #tbt #throwbackthursday

Happy #WorldKindnessDay! We believe World Kindness Day should be every day! Every day we seek justice, worth and dignity for all we engage with, at every level of Rwanda’s education system. When students are treated with kindness, love, and dignity in the classroom, they are empowered and emboldened, and know their value and worth. They see their potential, and work towards making their dreams come true! They see themselves as creative, powerful, confident, brilliant, world-changers! How will you show #love and #compassion today?
I really didn't like this shot until I saw it in Black and White. A little cropping helped some, too.

You may remember these faces - Komanga and Thomas, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Parent Committee of G.S. Muhato! Today, we’re throwin’ it back to this past September, when our we received a letter from the Parents’ Representatives of Wellspring partner schools across Rubavu. We were (and still are!) completely humbled and astonished by the parents and their letter, and would love to share some with you today! They wrote: “In the first training that we received from you, which focused on the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), we understood how we can develop ourselves using the assets we already have but which we used not to value...We have now started utilizing school gardens; these are now more productive and the harvest is used to support the school feeding program.” These parents are having a transformative impact on their school communities - and the fruits of their labour are showing, quite literally! Their commitment to #qualityeducation means that parents are fully engaged in the education of their children, and they are ensuring that students are set up for success in the classroom. Because who can learn on an empty stomach? Way to go Parents of the Rubavu District! And thank you for your partnership that is allowing these schools, parents, and students to THRIVE! #TBT #School #qualityeducation #transformation #communitydevelopment
Did you know that bananas are a great source of nutrition for school lunches? Parents at Musave School have started a banana plantation on unused grounds at the school to provide nutrition for the school feeding program. Year 5 had a very successful trip to the Wellspring Overnight Camp in Wadi El Beit last week. High ropes, Zip wires and other team building activities were enjoyed by all. Teachers were so proud to see so many of our students overcoming their initial fears and taking a risk. The three days of the camp were nonstop and, needless to say, the buses were much quieter on the journey home!

Matt met with Doris this morning and received the $25,000 matching grant for #RaysSocks on #GivingTuesday, plus an additional $27,000 from Ray's celebration of life. We are incredibly grateful for our time with Ray and the legacy he has left. We are also blessed by your generosity in fulfilling his matching grant and giving to a cause he greatly cared about.

Happy #TravelTuesday, Wellspring family! We're here with a Rwanda fun fact for you today. Did you know that 40% of Rwanda's population is under the age of 14? You can imagine how much pressure that puts on the education system - and how necessary #qualityeducation is! That's why our work is so crucial. When children and youth are almost half of the population, it is paramount to ensure that they are properly equipped with the tools, skills and knowledge to thrive! Not only are they the bright future, but they are the present and are teeming with potential! Share this post if this is new information, or like if you knew this #funfact already! #rwanda #school #education #learning #youth #children #potential #empower #learn #future #nextgeneration
What do you think of when you hear the name “Rwanda”? When Joel Olson, who has recently returned to Canada following 3 years as Wellspring's Education Advisor, asked this question of his friends and colleagues in Rwanda, they responded with words like security, resiliency, hope, and transformation. And over these past 3 years, Joel has discovered why. If you haven't yet had the opportunity, we invite you to listen and be inspired as Joel shares the powerful lessons he's learned during his time in Rwanda: thewellspringfoundation.org/resources/three-lessons/
