Year 5 had a very successful trip to the Wellspring Overnight Camp in Wadi El Beit last week. High ropes, Zip wires and other team building activities were enjoyed by all. Teachers were so proud to see so many of our students overcoming their initial fears and taking a risk. The three days of the camp were nonstop and, needless to say, the buses were much quieter on the journey home!

He's just now at the halfway mark of his motorbike adventure, riding from Cape Town, South Africa to Kigali, Rwanda (8400km) to raise enough money to fund our work in an entire school for a year ($16,800). This talented and passionate head teacher is not only a gift to the students, teachers, and families of Bweramvura Primary (including Noèlla, the student we introduced you to yesterday!) – she is also a role model, particularly to girls in her school. Primitiva exemplifies what girls can achieve when given the opportunity, and she encourages her students every step of the way. The best teaching aids are the ones that come from local, sustainable materials. Using our training, teachers are able to produce resources that help kids grasp lesson concepts with a much deeper clarity. At Kagugu School, kids learn basic math skills by using locally available beans to help them count!

We’ve been so privileged to spend the past ten years with her and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Our Community Involvement team in Rubavu is currently getting ready for our next workshop, which will focus on Healthy Families and Healthy Communities. This is such an important component of our work as, to quote Emmanuel (one of our trainers), "families and communities are the foundation of education, and education begins at home."
