Welcome Park is a small park dedicated to the life and times of Pennsylvania founder, and namesake, William Penn.
Penn arrived in America in 1682 from London. He was a real estate entrepreneur and saw potential in expanding in America. He was a Quaker and believed in religious freedom and a strong government to support the people. Penn soon started a colony allowing anybody to live there and practice whatever religion they believed in. He named this colony the Province of Pennsylvania.
From this sport, where the park sits, Penn built his home which was called the Slate Roof House. He would also lay out a government for the colony and a Religious Freedom Act allowing all colonist to practice their own religion.
Welcome Park was dedicated in 1982, on the 300th anniversary of William Penn's landing in America. The park is located in downtown Philadelphia across from the City Tavern.

Galeria Zderzak, in Krakow, Poland is one of the first 'commercial' galleries to grow outside of the state funded system of patronage in Poland.
Invited to exhibit there in October 2002, and while researching the gallery through its archives, we found video evidence that the director Marta Tarabula had been welcoming visitors and introducing artists at every exhibition opening since 1985.
We edited every welcome together, and this video loop played for the duration of the exhibition endlessly introducing artists, and welcoming each visitor.
At the projects inauguration, we in turn were introduced and thanked, and the audience welcomed by Marta.
Welcome makes explicit the exchange of obligations between a gallerist, the artists invited to exhibit, and an audience. Although in this instance, we declined the invitation of being promoted by the gallery, and instead Welcome uses the opportunity to assist gallery Zderzak through representing the gallerist Marta Tarabula.

Welcome Back Otter! 2002
This quilt celebrates the return of Sea Otters from near extinction. In the 1970s they were reintroduced to the west coast of Vancouver Island. They are doing well and are helping to restore the kelp beds by feeding on organisms that feed on the kelp.
The designs for the Sea Otters were inspired by a picture by Robert Lyn Nelson and a photograph by James Mattison Jr., MD.

Not the perfect start into our summer vacations weather-wise, but a foot massage with help of 80 km/h fast grains of sand can also be an interesting experience.
As you may recognize from the format change, this pic also marks one of the first shots with my new EOS 450D. I still have to learn quite a bit about SLRs, but I'm glad to finally join the camp.
Summer is well and truly over and yet there are still sunbeds on the beach and elderly people in the sea. Meanwhile, across the street, tatty effigies of Santa Claus are on sale, wiggling and bending to cheesy Christmas tunes. And in the middle of these two extremes was a smashed up car: another accident. There should be an image of a car smash on the flag. Back 2 months and I'm already tired of the way people drive here. Feeling a touch jaded today. Time for some tea and fudge.
