CHICAGO (Perspectives Charter Schools) -- Perspectives Mentor Breakfast on Thursday, October 23 from 8:00-10:00am at Perspectives/IIT Math & Science Academy.
Every year hundreds of juniors from across the Perspectives network participate in a five-week internship throughout the Chicagoland area. The program aims to provide every student with the opportunity to form a healthy relationship with a professional role model, help them develop awareness of career choices, and to introduce them to the culture of the business arena. Over the years, hundreds of companies and organizations have provided this valuable experience, where students work in the offices of their mentors on Wednesdays from 9 am to 3 pm for five weeks during the winter.

As some of you may already know, I love the raw creative talent found here on Flickr. Joslyn is one of the rare gems who have cultivated that talent. She has this ability (or super power, can’t tell for sure) to make an everyday subject surreal and haunting. Her layer work is genius, often adding subtleties (especially in her most recent works) to her images. Also, the detail and clarity of her photo manipulations are mesmerizing. Let’s not forget about her sense of humor, which finds its way into many of her images (such as the figure waving in the balloon photo above).

Hundreds came to St. John Cantius parish to begin the penitential season of Lent. This is a privileged season of grace for the entire Church. It begins the annual solemn preparation for the Easter Mystery which is the culmination of the Church Year.
The Latin name for Lent, Quadragesima, means forty and refers to the forty days Christ spent in the desert which is the origin of the Season.
As happens on every Ash Wednesday, the people receive ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross while the priest says, "Remember that thou art dust and unto dust thou shall return." Ashes are a biblical symbol of repentance, sorrow, and humility. It is a fitting beginning to this holy season dedicated to the conversion of our hearts and the need to do acts of penance for ourselves and for the world.
Sometimes all you need is a good porterhouse steak and some home-made wedges.
This meal was delicious but unfortunately it also set off the smoke alarm. >.<
PS. The steak isn't actually huge it's just a small plate, lol.
